Re: Only part of the network costs I was wondering how long before the standard "free market" trolls showed up. All for "free" markets as long as it means incumbents are free from competition. Funny how "deregulation" always means removing consumer protections but never means removing barriers from new competitors entering the market. I guess that's what happens when the incumbents write the laws.
I wonder how some of these "free market" guys that are constantly posting on here would have felt about Standard Oil and the likes of the past? Probably have all kinds of theory's on how much better off we would be if Standard Oil still controlled the entire US energy market. |

In some retrospective documentaries, it was standard oil behind the great era of alcohol prohibition, which could produce ethanol to compete with crude oil and its dirt cheap refining process. Lead fixed the problems of heat buildup (breaking the compression rings of the internal combusion engine prematurely), whereas ethanol never really got that hot, however created massive toxic exposure.. people really were quite literally dumbed down cognitively by lead fuel use. Think of where society might have been had these greedy bastards let cheaper renewable ethanol & bio fuels thrive..
Without rehashing a history lesson, the gold brick path to fttp vs coax competition is becoming a putrefied mass of greedy corporate interests enabled by a republican party deregulation ideology- let business do whatever is best for self interest and the customer and employee be damned. Much of this path either started or accelerated under George W. Bush who's legacy will be paved by how much damage to the world economy's been done..
People really need to step up and not let the fears of 2001 boogeymen let bad people get away with corporate bloody murder! |
