Or for most of Iowa its a choice between either Windstream or CenturLink vs Mediacom

Select towns have also either co-ops and or muni ftth providers.
Such as MCG communicatioons or Cedar Falls Utilities

Cedar Rapids Iowa also has ImOn communications

I've been debating leaving CenturyLink, but can't decide if I want Mediacom or the municipal broadband here in Independence. Mediacom is faster and cheaper.

I am sure mediacom is warming up the lobby-o-matic to buy laws to ban munis.

Some of the co-op's are pretty good. Southslope for example. I have heard great things about their ftth, although they severely lack on the upload side.

I think you should tar and feather any politican that votes to ban other telecom providers into the market! ... And if it's a city politican.. break some bones..

"Effective August 1st, new Mediacom Internet customers, and existing customers who choose to move to one of Mediacom’s new service plans, will have monthly usage allowances that vary depending on the level of service they choose. Monthly allowances range from 150 GB per month for our Mediacom Launch service to 999 GB per month for our Mediacom Ultra and Ultra Plus plans. If needed, additional bandwidth can be purchased for any service plan in 50GB blocks at $10 per block.

Our average Internet subscriber currently uses only 31 GB of data per month, so we don’t expect these allowances to have much impact on our customer base."

Only if its a Co-Op and those wanting it are the only ones that pay into it. Otherwise NO unless the network is FULLY Opened to ALL Companies to offer service - and those who still do NOT want to pay into it- are opted out of paying for those bonds.
