[HD] HD Set-top box rental fee increased?

I just got my new monthly bill, and it was around $2 more than last month. That confused me, since I'm supposedly on a 2-year "price guarantee". Well, after parsing the bill, it appears that Verizon has raised the fee for an HD set-top box from $9.99/mo to $11.99/mo.
Since that is an additional cost, and not part of the service fee proper, then I guess it doesn't go against their "price guarantee" agreement.

I don't like it, but I don't see how to avoid it, without cancelling my HD TV service. (Which I would also like to do, but I cannot switch from TV+internet billing, to just internet, without a credit card, as I have been told by Verizon, and since I don't own/use a CC, I'm screwed, I'm stuck with my current plan.)

The price guarantee applies only to the service, not the equipment.

You can have your bill debited from your checking account instead of using a credit card, but with VZ's penchant for billing errors, that is not something I would ever consider.

I called to complain....my bill went up approx $10 since I have 5 boxes. The rep just kept telling me about all the great features they offer.

The 2 year contract locks in the price for the services, not for the devices on the service. This is nothing new.

Did this STB increase only hit certain areas? In VA Beach, I saw my regular DVR price go up, but my STB and MRDVR stayed the same.

my August bill went up $2 total...not too bad but I'm more concerned that a $20 promo is expiring in September and it seems very difficult to get Verizon to offer another promo without changing out my entire bundle

Are you sure about this? I was under the impression only STB prices were going up and all DVR prices were staying the same.

From the links above, it appears the increase only applies to the NY/NJ area. No mention of other areas receiving an increase.

In Texas we got the increase this month. With a 4 HD box bundle, the price went up from $26.99 to $34.99, approx. $8.75 each.

Don't you mean $8.75 for the 4 box bundle, or $2.19 each?

I'd cancel if the box went up that much each.

$34.99 for the four box bundle, costing us $8.75 for each box now. Each box went up about $2, the bundle went up from $26.99 to $34.99.

Isnt this a conflicting statement?
"costing us $8.75 for each box now. Each box went up about $2, "

$8.75 TOTAL (4 boxes)
$2 per Box

My bill went up by $6, have an HD MR-DVR and 2 HD STB so I guess it was a $2 increase on everything...

Prices wont ever go down, they are only interested in profits. The only options would be build your own (Windows Media Center) or TiVO/Ceton(When Available) both using cable cards at $4 each/month, and there is no guarantee they wont jack the prices up on those as well.

I was looking at their prices recently. Since I was thinking about trying to get a free HD STB(to use for VOD) for some of the troubles they put me through recently with my botched upgrade to the 150/65 tier. They actually want $12 for an HD STB. That is crazy. I only want it for VOD. They need to give it to me for free if they want me to use it. (Although I would probably consider paying up to $2 for it.) Plus if I had one, FiOS would have the potential to make extra money from me with the VOD you pay for. But for $12 a month, that is a crazy price for a box that can't record content.

Here in Dallas area this is the increase we received:
$33.99 Before : Multi room DVR Package - 3 Room
$39.97 After

$7.98 Before : Digital Adapter (old TV....very cheap piece of equip)
$11.98 After

Total increase: $10/month
The biggest joke is the $12 for the digital adapter. If this was sold to the general public it would cost approx $20? I now payy $144 a year for a piece of crap.

Local Dallas TV station did a story on this:

Turn your 3 Room multi room dvr package into a 4 room and turn in your digital adapter. $12 for a digital adapter is ridiculous.
