| [Help] Cant Connect With MSN Messenger Or Yahoo Messenger Not sure if this is where I should post, but here we go.
I can no longer use Yahoo messenger or MSN messenger. Both recently updated to latest version. They worked fine until I decided to update them.
MSN says its a port thing that's keeping me from connecting. Yahoo I am not even sure.
I have turned off windows built in firewall just to test this, and still neither program connects. And the firewall says its allowing both programs. I have Avast (free version), and I have turned that off temporarily and still no go.
I don't know whats going on. They both worked till I updated them both. Nothing has changed on my machine. I'm on windows 7.
I even went to oldversion's site and got an older version of both, and they still don't connect.
On a side note, Skype works fine.
Any suggestions other than stick to Skype? -- Long you live and high you fly, and smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry, and all you touch and all you see, is all your life will ever be. |

| My restore points don't go back as far as needed to give it a try. This happened awhile back, and just recently I tried to get messenger and yahoo another try to see if they would work.
Must be a setting I have on my pc, although I have most definitely not changed any settings. Windows firewall is set to allow both of them. I have read on yahoo forum and MS forum that there are a few others having the same problem.
I am just given up. Suppose I will just use skype from here on out. -- Long you live and high you fly, and smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry, and all you touch and all you see, is all your life will ever be. |

| reply to Robotics Double check to make sure both are using port 80.
Yahoo will search for an open port and the most common open port is 80. If you accidentally have it set to use a proxy it may have a hard time connecting.
Also double check your internet connection settings and be sure you do not have a proxy script enabled in there. |

Also double check your internet connection settings and be sure you do not have a proxy script enabled in there. Is this setting correct? And is there another location to set the settings? I have never touched this, and don't know much about it. But it appears I am not using a proxy...unless I am in the wrong area to check these settings.
I will have to reinstall the programs and see if they are both using port 80.
Thanks -- Long you live and high you fly, and smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry, and all you touch and all you see, is all your life will ever be. |
