| [Connection Sharing] Why is TV speeds slower than Computer??? TV | Computer |
My current setup in dinning room:
Motorola Docsis 3.0 cable modem> Belkin 750N DB router> Netgear Powerline AV XAVB2001.
In my bedroom down the hall:
TV on the right side wall Netgear XAVB2001 Computer on the back center Netgear XAVB2001
My computer gets 32Mbps to 35Mbps and my TV gets 4.4Mbps to 4.8Mbps
First I thought one adapter was dying on me so I switch them both around but was still getting the same speeds.
Then I thought great outlet is dying so I plugged the PC Ethernet behind the TV desk and the TV Ethernet behind the computer desk but i was still getting pretty much the same thing also.
If there are no A/C wall outlet or Netgear Powerlive AV problem for me then what is causing the speed difference???
I know it can't be the Wi-Fi because I have that turned off forever. |

Most likely your computer has more processing power than your TV for such a test (and you're using 2 different testing methods). The TV might also have a slower NIC than your computer. Finally it might be partially influenced by the electrical wiring for each of the 2 outlets where you are connecting the TV and the computer. As long as you're able to watch whatever videos you want on the TV without delays or pauses I wouldn't get too worked up about it. |

You might want to see what others with a similar TV are getting. |

 | reply to floydb1982 if you want to be sure that your TV's hardware sucks, run a really long Ethernet cable from your MODEM directly to your TV (or move your TV near your modem and use a short one) and do the test again. if it's just as slow, your TV's hardware sucks. but if you get "fast" speeds, run that same cable from your TV to your Router. if you get slow speeds, the problem is somehow related to your router's handling of your TVs internet requests. on the other hand, if you get fast speeds, the problem is with your Powerline equipment or its setup. |

 | Speed speedtest sites tend to suck. Whether it's because of their server or the app itself I don't know.
Try it yourself. I tend to get much faster speeds using speedtest.net than the speakeasy or the dslreport speedtests. |

It may be that the TV speed test app is actually calculating your speed in megabytes per second even though the label says megabits. |

When I do speedtest I get 25 mbps and when i did that same test using neotv (before i returned it) it was 2.8 mbps. I immediately assumed it was given in megabytes. -- math PhD student (University of Miami) OBAMA 12'. blue > red |
