| Finally going to add mom and grandma to my Verizon plan We finally decided to add mom and grandma to my Verizon share everything plan. They are currently paying $135 a month (with Mom's employer discount) to AT&T for two dumb phones (that mom and grandma use) and an unused smartphone that we are going to cancel when the contract expires next month. We figured it would be cheaper to add mom and grandma to my Verizon share everything (at $30 per phone) plan as opposed to them getting a seperate account (which would also add a $40 data charge just to get unlimited minutes). Mom and grandma don't use data (other than mom texting me or MMS photos to her e-mail so she can load them on the computer). The use dumb phones and I have picked out the Samsung Convoy II for both of them since they tend to be tough on phones (the occasional drop and mom works outdoors for the school district as a crossing guard). I also like that the Convoy has large buttons which will be good for Grandma's arthritic hands. My mom currently gets an employer discount but we found it cheaper just to add her and grandma to my plan as we would lose any savings with the data charges on seperate accounts. They are going to give me their $30 each for the phones and I'll pay Verizon since most of the bill is for my gadgets. |
