[WildBlue] NMP Strikes Again

I see that the Network Management Policy has returned to my spot beam slowing down and generally making my Internet service pathetic at 11:30 am. The improved speeds brought about by Viasat-1 did not last long, just a few months.

Could be an internet bandwidth issue...my speeds are also slower.

How is your speed test here?

A speed test will not be useful. The download is already done, and my speed restored provided I do not stream a video or download something larger than about 30 MB. Task Manager's network monitor showed a falling edge that cut my speed in half while streaming a video which is the telltale sign of the NMP. Download speed also drifted around which indicates network congestion.

There's the rub, we both are on Riverside Gateway, and both of us experienced reduced speeds...needless to say, with reduced bandwidth, the NMP kicks in.

I do not know whether it is a one time problem, is here to stay or will gradually get worse.

Wildblue was better without the NMP.

On Wildblue legacy, it gets better with time; those who move on to Exede 5/12 from existing Wildblue beams decrease the population count (contention ratio) on many beams.

In 2005 Wildblue was as good as satellite Internet could be expected. Then Wildblue steadily degraded the service until earlier this year when the speeds improved as some legacy customers switched to Exede-5. Now it is probably downhill until Viasat launches an even high capacity satellite or Anik-F2 fails.
