 | What does one do with all this bandwidth? Outside of possibly running servers (I'm not sure what Comcast's policy is on this) what does one do with all that bandwidth? I'm at 30mbps now and very few websites use more than half of it.
This is a legitimate question. I'm trying to wrap my mind around what I'd do with so much bandwidth. |

There is more to the Internet than websites. |

the ONLY reason the internet is the way it is now is because high speed connections are far from ubiquitous.
so everything on the internet is made with that little fact in mind.
Once we overcome this huge bottleneck, and we will (no thanks to any telco mind you) you'll see what the internet should look like in the 21st century. |

| reply to bayshun During the days of dial-up internet you could have said the exact same thing about broadband. Jump forward a few years and we get YouTube, Netflix, and other services never possible before high speed internet existed.
So what I'm getting at is, we didn't knew then what was possible with a fast connection. I'd imagine we'll see a dramatic change in the way data flows. |

With Comcast at least I have options for 30, 50 and 100MB although it would be nice to see 100MB drop from the ridiculous $199 a month for people who are not in some sort of triple play. I like to buy my bandwidth and TV separately and until Comcast can do Anyplace DVR I have to stick with Uverse to achieve the view anywhere in the house solution the family loves. |

This is a legitimate question. I'm trying to wrap my mind around what I'd do with so much bandwidth. Netflix Hulu Crackle Youtube Email
Now you wouldn't think you would need a lot of bandwidth but many security systems like ptz cams will send email on motion so it might send a few pics that eat up your connection along with your regular email sending and then you have gaming and other heavy ended video websites that play HD quality videos. Music is another one people will buy a few albums on amazon or itunes or TV series.
I can think of a millions legal thing you can do that will take tons of bandwidth.
Some people have cut the cord fully and went netflix only but you would have to be a serious couch potato to use all you bandwidth in a month. |
