Re: Prices listed are for broadband only device & plan

In non-Cricket areas, they are just another MVNO. And either way, they are never going to provide the same quality of service that Verizon or AT&T will.

how does metropcs compare? (I heard rumor att wants to buy them). I notice in Chicago area, they don't have home coverage, only "home extended" whatever it means. I also noticed they only sell phones, no hotspots or usb sticks.

Cricket and MetroPCS have a joint roaming agreement and other than a couple exceptions do not encroach on each other's markets. The Chicago market is Cricket, therefore MetroPCS roams primarily on Cricket in Chicago.

For example:
New york
LA
Miami
Dallas
Atlanta
are metro pcs

Chicago
Houston
Baltimore/DC
Portland
St. Louis
Are Cricket

They both have several more markets than that. I just used those to illustrate. They could merge and have very little overlap (mostly in the philly area and vegas).

Hmm interesting. However, cricket has more offers than metropcs, they also offer USB sticks with data only plans.

MetroPCS is a joke. They work in the 'hood, and in major cities, but that's about it. Drive a few miles in any direction, and you're on Sprint. Drive a few more miles, and your roaming on Verizon, where you have to pay something like 20 cents a minute, although you get free texting. The data is the worst part, it's pretty much all 1xRTT, with a few areas with LTE. MetroPCS has a couple of markets with EVDO, but not my market.
