Re: [Exede] Tired of bad service, What choice do I have?

The tracert took me 5 hops and 2100 ms to get there.

Here, just do a Tracert 24.25.224.142 and post results, like this example below, which came from this thread »[Exede] Tracert: Phoenix AcceleNet Server

I dont know what else to say. I can only repeat what they tell me. I would not deliberately trash a company if I were getting good service for the price. As you can see from my numbers and speed test I an not exaggerating on the poor quality of service. The worst part is that now refuse to help me. I was told there is nothing more they can do for me and that 1mbs download was acceptable because their advertisement and contract says the seeds are "Up To 12mbs". I never expected to have 12mbs all of the time but I also did not expect to have less than a quarter of what they promised most of the time.

My Modem is Blue and has 4 blue lights, it seems the bottom 2 blink all of the time.

I was under the impression all Exede modems (or at least Exede 12) were black and all Wildblue modems were blue?

I correct that quote as I was looking at it in the dark. My mode is black with blue lights and it says Viasat on the side.

Its actually black with blue lights and says viasat on the side. It only has one coax connected to it.

Rx Power: -45.3 dBm
Rx SNR: 9.3 dB
Cable Resistance: 1.5 Ohms
Cable Attenuation 5.5 dB

Your Rx power (29.5 nW) is low, but maybe that is as good as it gets in Delaware.
Your SNR could be better but should be ok at 11.7% noise.
Your cable resistance is within Exede's acceptable range.
Your cable attenuation should be lower.

Because you said your dish has been repeaked already, I would investigate your coaxial cable. You need to get your cable resistance and attenuation lower to increase your Rx power. An Rx power of -40 dBm (100 nW) would be great.

Please post the writing on your coaxial cable, so we can check if it is on Wildblue's approved coaxial cable list. It must have a solid copper center conductor. A steel center conductor with copper cladding is unacceptable. Ensure that your coaxial cable is not crushed or twisted and does not have sharp bends. F-connectors should not crush the coaxial cable.

What is the length of your coaxial cable?

Your F-connectors should have compression fittings, rubber washers that clamp around the coaxial cable. When you say that there is silicone on the joints, I hope your installer did not put silicone on the F-connectors.

There is a second page in the modem status that shows your Tx IF Power and Tx RF Power.

I have no idea what 2100 ms means, nor what 5 hops means...just a simple

Tracert 24.25.224.142

would clear this up. Also, one might try this test site:

Well then, your Gateway is in NV, and your processing center ( AcceleNet Server ) in Salt Lake....

Ain't nothing wrong with your latency...typical.

Ain't nothing wrong there...btw, mine is running:
Temperature: 70 °C, but its 96.5 °F outside.

Do remember, Exede is composed many beams across the US...and many users are getting much higher speeds, including myself on Exede 5.

If you tried direct connection to modem via several different computers, if household appliances/etc were turned off during these tests (stray RF signals), and if you pull up task manager (network) to check for other network activity before a legit speed test, then either there are stray RF digital/analog signals around your area, or Beam 329 (or/and AcceleNet Server ) has an issue. But, I have heard another person on same NV Gateway without an issue. Hence, Hughes Gen4 may shoot craps on you too, if stray RF is the issue. And yes, stray RF exists...

If Exede has offered a freebie exit, I would take it, now!

Myself, I would get two programs (Networx & QuotaSatellite)

»QuotaSatellite

and compare bytes counted over several days, and compare it to Exede's byte counter. I know router and ethernet cards can shoot craps in funny ways...not completely dead, but you say all of this has been addressed.

And I would consider this post: »Re: Wireless Throughput

substitute your cable, easiest way is a 25 foot or so jumper and use a laptop directly beneath the dish.

I'm not aware of anyone defining "Brownout Mode." But, it seems if your cable is not up to Exede/Wildblue's specs (solid copper), then " Sometimes it says no and sometimes it says yes."

I'm guessing it means switching to channel 320, rain fade mode.

I think an individual SB2 modem can dynamically change its uplink mode of transmission for rain fade, but I think Exede's system would have to change downlink transmission mode to consumers for everybody in that beam.

Personally I wouldnt care less about the speed if they didnt advertise it as being so amazing and tell me thats why Im paying so much for the package. I just want to watch a news clip without buffering, check email that doesnt take forever and browse at faster than dial up speeds. I would be happy with much less speeds and more data instead. The problem is I am paying a premium price for a premium plan. DSL or 4g would be perfect for me except for the tiny data cap on mobile broadband. I sold all of my 3g equipment when I switched over to Exede. The problem with Exede is they wont let you try out the service to see if you are satisfied. If I could of done that I would of stayed with 3g. now after 7 service visits and multiple credits, I have yet to hear from anyone at the corporate office. If it were me, I would of sent out a level III Engineer. They give the customer the impression that they just dont care. if you could hear the recording of the conversations I have had with Customer Support you would understand. Even worse is they think they are doing me a favor by providing me a great service, and yes they do have some happy customers but I think most of the Exede people are disjointed and angry. I can tell this just by reading post on Wildblues own forum page. I had them a few years ago and left them because of their terrible service. I guess I will be leaving once again in the Fall.

I will be joining you Kessler...when I also cancel my service with Viasat this fall.

I guess we will be part of the normal "churn" that others of this board claim occurs with every internet provider. Of course if they had a product that delivered what they claimed...they might not lose as many customers.

Incidently, 4G is now less than 50 miles from me. Getting closer. While I am not crazy about those caps either...Exede isn't any better in the cap department for the price they charge. So might as well go with a system that has a local office and representatives and no latency.

Best of luck to you!
