| [Exede] Tired of bad service, What choice do I have? I am currently using Viasat (Exede). I am on the 12mbs\3mbs 25gb cap plan for $149.00. Unfortunately in spite of all of the service calls and visits I only get 2-5 mbs\256-756 speeds. I have a clear line of site and an excellent view. I was told by several of the technicians that the beam I was on has again been over sold. I am not sure what is true but Viasat is offering to let me out of my contract free of charge. I am waiting for the G4 sat to go online. Hopefully I will see better speeds, ping times and much less down times than I am having now. I have seen the Canadian price chart and hope it will be close to that for us Americans. I have put myself on the list to be notified asap the Gen4 sat comes online. So far I have gotten over $500.00 in refunds for the lack of service for Viasat, but I hear the Customer Service for Hughes is much better. The other thing is the bandwidth meter does not work correctly. Since January I have been consistently over my usage no matter what plan I use. We have 3 computer but actually do not use the net that much. We read the news, check Facebook and read our online email. My router has a usage meter built into it and Viasat is always 2 times higher than what my meter says. The other thing is Viasat charges your bandwidth usage with a combined upload/download. Many of us suspect that we are also being charged with their constant upgrades and failures to their modem software. If you find any information on what the pricing plan will be for the US, I would greatly appreciate you letting me know. Like most other people in my tiny state and zip code of 19901 we are very eager to make the switch.
Thanks, -- Wildblue Exede 12/5 15gb cap. The worst ISP on the face of earth. I also have a account with Millenicom, to back up my unreliable Wildblue connection. |

If using router, then disconnect from it and hook direct to SB2 modem. Try with two different computers.

I was told by several of the technicians that the beam I was on has again been over sold. I am not sure what is true but Viasat is offering to let me out of my contract free of charge. I would find that hard to believe (beam oversold)...I'd be more inclined to believe you have some radio interference problem.
Interesting, ViaSat is offering to let you out...free of charge. |

 | reply to mwkessler According to your zip code, you should be able to receive Verizon 4G service. If so, I would look into that before any satellite option. |
|
 | reply to mwkessler Until this month, Exede has not been enforcing the usage limit, so it did not matter that you exceeded it.
If your spot beam was over sold, then your speeds should be good during the AM hours and early afternoon. If you do not see this pattern of prime time slowdown, then your spot beam is not overloaded.
As DrStrangLov requested, it would be helpful to show us the data on you modem status pages. You can block out your IP address and MAC address for your privacy. -- Wildblue Value Pack, beam 31, Riverside gateway |

 | reply to mwkessler Trying to understand why your Exede modem shows 2 times more data use than your router, perhaps there is heavy packet loss somewhere between the modem and the gateway causing packets to be resent often. It would explain your slow speed and the high usage on the Exede meter. Use tracert and ping to perform ping tests to check for packet loss. |

| reply to OldSatUser I was with Millenicom for a few years but because of the conditions around my address I can no longer get 3g or 4g. Also it says 4g is available but the towers have not been upgraded yet. I can get a good signal from AT&T but their caps are way too low. Just so everyone is aware, I have been a Network Engineer for MS before I went into contracting. I do confess, I dont know much about satellites but the basics are the same.

| reply to Spice300 Actually for some of early buys the the Caps were enforced in May. You can verify that by checking the Wildblue forms. It has not matter much to me anyway as I said I have received $500.00 in refunds of loss of service or reimbursement when the Techs failed to come out and not call me to let me know. I actually had to install my own system. Back in Jan. I was the person who made the post about the Tech. coming out at noon and not leaving till midnight without finishing the install. I went back on the roof and pointed to the beam. The next morning it started working. The funny thing was Exede never told the Tech the Gateway was down for the day in my area. I think he called into Exede 5 or 6 times and they never mentioned the system was down. I eventually talked them into sending someone out to check the system over but everything checked out ok. Since then they have been back due to the poor speeds. Early in the mornings I will get download speeds on the upper side of 4mbs and it gradually degrades to about 1 to 1.5 mbs. The upload is usually a steady 756k. I have been thru 3 modems and 3 trias. When speedtest are conducted they are done by a pc connected directly to the modem and the last few visits they have brought their own pc with them. I have spoken to a lot of people in Delaware and this seems to be a common problem here. Im not sure how true the statement was but I was told several times I am on an augmented beam and it has been oversold. At this point they will not send anymore people out to fix the problem, they feel its cheaper just to let me out of the contract.

The other strange thing I have found is that my signal comes in from Nevada when I do a tracert. If you look at the post I am not the only one having these problems.

1 edit | reply to mwkessler >Rx SNR: 9.3 dB
There is a range of acceptable values, which this would be in, but if one is on Beam 329, I would wonder if you dish is fully peaked. I'm on fringe area of an augmented beam, and I run around Rx SNR: 11.3 dB. That said, your cable run may be dragging down this value. How long is your cable...and what is specific brand/model?
Being on Beam 329, your Gateway is in Lovelock, NV, but I have not heard of low test results, and doubt if it is fully loaded with consumers.
One can always contact: viasatlistens@viasat.com I would think corporate would like to investigate why one is having this issue.
Btw, the Hughes bird is a clone of ViaSat-1; so, if there is some type of radio interference in your area...guess what? Old story in the BUD world
Oh, the real question is did the tech give the right configuration number for the beam you are suppose to be in. There are four beams in your area, and if they bounce around on installs, they may have given you the wrong number. Also, if your fittings were not crimped right...another issue. |

Here, post your tracert results:

| reply to DrStrangLov The installs look good, all wires crimped all joints covered in silicone, the ground is nice and tidy. The satellite is dead set on the beam they told me to aim it to and I have a loud steady beep from the device. Beam 329 is the augmented beam I was told I was on, and was told it was fully loaded. We talked about another one but they said that would be too hard for them to do. I have done a radio frequency test in the area and the only ones I find are a wireless home phone on 1.9...Cell Phones on 2.53 and cards on 2.4. Also of today we connect directly to the modem and use the Cat 5 wiring installed in the house. We use the DHCP provided by the modem and the DNS server provided by Viasat. -- Wildblue Exede 12/5 15gb cap. The worst ISP on the face of earth. "Beam 329 is the augmented beam I was told I was on, and was told it was fully loaded." 329, as are all 3xx numbered beams, are not "augmented" beams from Anik-F2 or WB-1...augmented beams are not offered by Exede to your location...329 is from ViaSat-1 and should be 12/3 service. Yes, I had them both side-by-side and the "blue" is so dark it looks black unless looked at with a bright light...very easy to confuse the color.
The real key is the color of the lights...Exede has blue lights...and the other clue is Exede modems only have one coax connected and Wildblue modems have two coax cables connected.. -- Exede12, ViaSat-1, beam 342, Albuquerque Gateway, Denver AcceleNet servers |
