The removal of the favicon from the address bar really bugs me. I do not approve.

Can't say I miss it given that it's in the tab, where the visual is more useful, in my opinion.

My opinion is the opposite. The icon position in the address bar doesn't move so I always look at it first from a quick visual perspective. The Tab could be anywhere. I suppose it will be like the election.. 50% for it, 50% against.

I guess since the current tab has the website displayed I know what website I'm looking at? and since the rest of the websites are "hidden" so the favicon tells me which tab is for which website...

Heh. You're probably right

Working fine as well.
Lost none of my 62 extensions and I had already updated the two themes I maintain.

Well I did find an extension that adds the favicon back into the address bar: »forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic···=2503367

So I can use this if I just can't get used to not having it there.

I got it after I opened Thunderbird and it updated automatically to 14.0.1. Once that installed, I checked to see if there was an update for Firefox and got that, too. Then I checked here. None of my extensions or plug-ins failed, but I don't have that many.

I'd like to know how to disable the address bar auto-complete. Y'know, type one letter & it auto-fills in a site from your history that starts w/ it.

From the Tools Menu, click on Options, and then go to the Privacy Tab. Near the bottom is a section called "Location Bar". The default setting is "History and Bookmarks". I modify mine to be "nothing", but as you can see, there are other options to choose from.

Yeah, but then it doesn't show anything in the location bar. I think he's just asking to remove the functionality they added in yesterday's FF update, which fills in the name of the website as soon as you start typing.

EDIT: One search later, and I found how to disable it.

1. Type about:config in the address bar and press enter.
2. Find "browser.urlbar.autoFill” preference and set its value to “False”.

GOT IT, Thanks.

Note: this update also changes the ssl info notice in the the address bar. Goes from a easy to notice colored background (green, blue, orange) to a white bg with colored text.

Why did they change the left/right arrows (page back/page forward) icons back to what they used to be many versions ago? This is on both XP and Win7.

Did they sit in a meeting one day and vote on removing the favicon from addressbar? Are we better off because it's gone or was it somebody's idle whim?

The favicon still exists in the tab. The icon in the address bar now indicates the security level of the page. A gray globe indicates the page sends data unencrypted. If encryption is in place, there are two levels. The top level will show with a lock and the name of the page owner. There is a middle level which I'm not awake enough to remember the details.

Chrome and Opera, I think, have long implemented these standards.

The encryption indicator appears glitchy to me.

https://www.bankofamerica.com ~ normal, shows a lock and site owner
https://www.americanexpress.com ~ shows lock but no site owner
https://www.usbank.com ~ shows a gray globe
https://www.chase.com ~ shows a gray globe on first visit, shows a lock when refreshed
