The icon position in the address bar doesn't move so I always look at it first from a quick visual perspective. The Tab could be anywhere. I suppose it will be like the election.. 50% for it, 50% against. |

| I guess since the current tab has the website displayed I know what website I'm looking at? and since the rest of the websites are "hidden" so the favicon tells me which tab is for which website...

MarkRHPremium join:2005-02-08 Oklahoma City, OK | reply to darcilicious Well I did find an extension that adds the favicon back into the address bar: »forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic···=2503367
So I can use this if I just can't get used to not having it there. |

| reply to NICK ADSL UK I got it after I opened Thunderbird and it updated automatically to 14.0.1. Once that installed, I checked to see if there was an update for Firefox and got that, too. Then I checked here. None of my extensions or plug-ins failed, but I don't have that many. -- It is easier for a camel to put on a bikini than an old man to thread a needle. |

Near the bottom is a section called "Location Bar". The default setting is "History and Bookmarks". I modify mine to be "nothing", but as you can see, there are other options to choose from.

I think he's just asking to remove the functionality they added in yesterday's FF update, which fills in the name of the website as soon as you start typing.
EDIT: One search later, and I found how to disable it.
1. Type about:config in the address bar and press enter. 2. Find "browser.urlbar.autoFill preference and set its value to False.

| The favicon still exists in the tab. The icon in the address bar now indicates the security level of the page. A gray globe indicates the page sends data unencrypted. If encryption is in place, there are two levels. The top level will show with a lock and the name of the page owner. There is a middle level which I'm not awake enough to remember the details.
Chrome and Opera, I think, have long implemented these standards. |
