so my phone got murdered by a group of kids

Yes, the topic is correct.

Was walking down my nice street, on the nice sidewalk, when a bunch of kids at about 1pm are coming down the road... as they reach the corner of the street two of them come up on the sidewalk of my nice little street. I moved to the side of the sidewalk and... still... I was knocked over and fell on a nice hard drivewall.

So I turned around and was about to yell at the kids when I realized they were already 4-5 doors down and didn't seem to even care. Blah.

So I'm young, didn't feel hurt other than a bit bruised. Went to call my wife and... my Samsung Galaxy, about to be 2 years old in August... the screen didn't turn on... and then it did. A 4cm by 4cm screen area that blinked.

...

Couldn't believe it. I did turn around then and yelled at them... one kid stopped and the others yelled at him to come on "He can't do anything..." and I have no clue who these kids are.

so... now I have a Galaxy S3. I do like the new phone, and got a decent deal from Bell (Surprised!) to replace the old one... yes I'm on a 3 year contract again... but they threw in a free extended warenty (even covers toilets lol).

Hard Shell cover for the new one as well.

Glad you like the new phone(should have got a Nexus :-P )

Why aren't parents teaching kids respect anymore? If I ever catch my little one behaving like that...

Why would anybody want a Galaxy Nexus instead of the GS3? The Nexus is slow/obsolete, the GS3 replaced it and is substantially faster. Double the CPU power, double the GPU power, etc.

You mean the same nice street where your neighbour kept a couch on his front yard a few years ago. I can only imagine it has gone downhill since then.

Yeah, the "free" extended warranty with the $150 deductible.

I love the SIII, so I'm jealous. I want one.

Re: so my phone got murdered by a group of kids

i noticed kids these days, have no respect for others. i was walking down the sideawlk, and one kit was walking directly into me and was not even flintching to move aside, as he thought he was all mighty and can do what ever he wants, he is a school kid or something, i am a grown man, have a real job, support a family. anyways he bumped into me thinking i'd either move aside or he would knock me on the ground, and funny enough my filipino buddy, who is quite large, and is a bouncer at a famous toronto nite club was right behind me, close enough that when he pushed into me, the filipino guy behind me, stopped me from falling back, and both of us knocked down this poor indian kid instead. it was not my goal to knock him down, but it was the end result, i said oh are you ok he looked a little dazed as to what just happened, then saw the filipino guy and then scratched his head, got up and prolyl learn his lesson.

I walk past a high school worth of kids almost every day of the school year during what is often lunch hour which means sudden bursts of great sums of kids.

Chances of them not moving out of my way is about 1 in several thousand to my best guess.

I walk with a cane though, and I am short and very clearly solid looking ie big even if short and I suppose it is the view of me walking slowly toward them with no real look of my planning to move out of THEIR way.

They never look like they ever had any interest in NOT moving aside though. Heck in a full year I have really only had one minor insignificant jostle really.

Maybe it's because I live in a smallish town here. Can't say I know what it would be like in a place the size of Toronto for instance.

And absolutely useless compared to GNex until Android and it's applications become quad-core compatible. The batteries are not much better than those provided in the GNex.

Besides, have you ever heard of custom ROM's or Kernels that actually help a device perform better? /sarcasm

There's a trick when you're out and about walking to make people move out of your way.

First, it helps to be big.

Second, don't even glance at them. Make it clear that you own the sidewalk that you're walking on. 90% of the time they will move for you if it's clear that you don't care if they get knocked over.

Ah, drinking Intel's "we only sell single core mobile CPU's because Android doesn't work with multi-core" kool-aid, eh?

I've had a few people walk into me while texting. I didn't budge, and their device almost flew out of their hands. I got the 'look', and said, I guess you better get off that f**king thing before a car hits you, you idiot...

Show no mercy!

Wow, another ignorant putz that knows nothing about the XDA community. Such groups exist because they know that older phones still have life left in them and can support newer versions of Android. Since when does Intel have anything to do with this anyways? The GNex and S III are powered by Cortex Processors (Which in Canada, the S III has a dual-core processor)....

So tell me, are you drinking the "I must buy a new device every year because my Telco doesn't provide updates" Koolaid? Or are you part of the iSheep community?

As for the GNex, I am a happy user of one and it's been flashed with a JB ROM for the past week. Couldn't be happier with it, as the AOSP community has been making killer ROM's for it. If this phone were to die, I'd get another one and wait for the quad-core phones to mature.

Yup, jellybean on a gNex is smooth as butter. I would replace mine if it broke too! Seeing that its only $350 brand new unlocked especially.

The Galaxy Nexus is not slow. And certainly not obsolete. The GS3 did not "replace it" in any way, shape or form. Sure it is a faster phone in some areas but TouchWiz, IMO, is terrible. And if by default, you have to replace the ROM to a stock build or otherwise, it obviously does not make it a better phone in that sense of things.

The Galaxy Nexus already has Jellybean, which has drastic improvements in UI and general performance, amongst other things, like Google Now. What about the S3? Not yet? I thought it "replaced" the Nexus, because the Nexus is slow and obsolete.

Sure, the S3 will eventually get it's Jellybean officially but I'm sure not without TouchWiz.

See where I am going here? Both phones have their plus and minuses. It comes down to opinions and personal needs, so for every one of your "who would want a Galaxy Nexus instead of xxx?" there is actually someone who feels the opposite. But to make an asinine comment like the Nexus being slow and obsolete... well, that's another matter entirely.

Yea, I've never had that problem either. I hear these stories of people knocked over by kids on bikes and it sounds like a story from a foreign land. If a kid ever came close to hitting me on a bike, I'd probably yank him off his bike and throw him to the ground. It's possible they sense something in certain people that suggest, "I can knock this guy over so he better get out of my way".

I was once shoulder checked by a dude at night but he was looking for a fight (and wasn't a kid).

These phones are way too big for my liking... My brother has the Galaxy Nexus, and its a massive monstrosity... way bigger than I want to carry in my pocket.

The GS3 is the same screen size or similar I believe...

The PenTile screen doesnt help either. Even though it has the high resolution, I can still tell that its not a true RGB screen. My iPhone 4 screen feels sharper and crisper.
