| So... about those Canadian upload speeds... Being part of the G8, it is quite embarrassing that we have worse off upload speeds of impoverished countries on the other side of the world.
Canada has the ability to build the proper infrastructure to support advancements in internet technologies... and it's 2012.
Why are we still on 1Mbps average upload speeds when it is common to have 90Mbps upload speeds????
It seems even more ridiculous that the US is far ahead of us on this. |
|
 | Well, I have 7 Mbps upload. |

I have 10\1 for under 30 bucks or even less - unmetered, i really don't want to complaing -- www.urimage.net - Free Image Hosting |

Although it is $130 + tax per month for this. |

damirSFRJPremium join:2003-05-24 | Its nice to have, no doubt, but, i wouldn't want to pay that money for my needs, which are netflix (you cant watch movies faster then me in anyway :P , youtube , work , etc )
If i had that kind of connection with static IP, i would try to get another hardware need to at least have 1-2 servers at home for my websites (so, in a way to use it "properly" ) -- www.urimage.net - Free Image Hosting |

Qsig join:2009-05-18 Kanata, ON | The IP jumps everytime I disconnect, it's quite annoying.
I did have to buy a Atom-based little computer for the router, haha. I was running a WRT610N but would only get around 60 down and 20 up but after buying the Atom one and throwing pfsense on there, I got that.
You also have to remember that any network switch in the house needs to be gig to use the full speed. |

damirSFRJPremium join:2003-05-24 | i see, thats why (in my opinion, please do not get me wrong here - its just my opinion) having this kind of speed at home with dynamix IP is more sux.

| reply to Qsig Dynamic IP isn't a issue for me. I have held Bell IPs over 400 days before, you just need a stable modem/router and UPS. Usually Bell will have a network outage deeper inside their network, but the edge/access concentrator will still hold your IP.
I'm using a Mikrotik RB751G-2HnD on VDSL2 now with two ISPs. I bought it from Xagyl in Ottawa for $104. I think it can handle 175/175 in routing mode but I haven't tested. If someone in Toronto has 175/175 and wants a Mikrotik in their setup I can bring mine over and send you my config. -- Fiber Optics are the future of high-speed internet access. You mean to get DOCSIS3? Most of us have that by now. I think if they were in a hurry they could have gotten it done and flipped the switch much sooner.
When I said slow and cheap I meant it's probably cheaper for them to do the upgrades more slowly with less staff than to try to do it faster. |

mlernerPremium join:2000-11-25 Nepean, ON kudos:5 | They're also upgrading them to support up to 8/4 channels along with the fact they have to allocate the new channels to DOCSIS which may require work in the neighborhood. |

| reply to spikernum1 Rogers is on track to deliver 4x US in select markets by 2013... and by the time they complete that, they will have to do it all over again with fiber. On July 24 watch them blame subscriber losses on increased competition.
