Re: I don't think my Teksavvy DSL profile was switched to 6Mbit

And here is the response from Teksavvy when I ask about purchasing a new modem:

"A ticket has been opened to get the profile change & no a new modem is not required. The hardware you are connected to at the CO is the cause of this issue. Unfortunately, unless Bell upgrades the equipment, there is nothing we can actually do."

So the whole thing is confusing to me.

So I found refurbished ones from Here for $18 + 14 shipping, »www.cpainc.ca/product_info.php?p···d=671029

Not sure if there is a reason to stay away from refurbishes ones, also will this be compatible with 25Mbit plans in case I ever want to upgrade to one?

Given my stats, is it almost with certainty we can could say this speedtouch 516 wouldn't give me the same problems with my profile?

It's worth a shot at that price...

No it will not be compatible with 25mbit plan, that requires a VDSL modem which currently bell provides one as a forced rental because of Bell's proprietary remote hardware depending on your location.

Right now, Bell rents the modems for VDSL2 to wholesale ISPs and this is currently non-optional. You cannot opt out of Bell's rental even if you do manage to get a modem compatible with whichever VDSL2 remote you land on.

Hi everyone,

Just to give you an update, my profile was moved to 6016/512 with my TP-Link modem, and although on downloading it peaked at 645 KB/s, it doesn't maintain a constant speed like my 5Mbit profile did at 542 KB/s. Instead it will just fluctuate a lot more and jumps between high 400 to 600ish. My speed tests may not be very scientific as I do it with DU Meter and a newsgroup download, I tried that teksavvy.speedtest but the test always ends before it reaches its peak and the longer term download on the newsgroup shows the instability that I wouldn't see on a quick speed test, unless there is a better way to do this.

TSI Martin said he would put in a request for the 6016/800 Fastpath, do you think that will improve the stability? What is Fastpath and why isn't everyone on it if it I'd better?

On a side note, I was able to find a brand new Speed Touch 516 v6 and I'm just waiting for TSI Martin to tell me ti plug it in so he can see if my stats are better.

Here are my latest stats since having switched to a Speed Touch 516v6

Teksavvy put in the request to move me to 6016/800 Fastpath. Are these stats that muxh better with the new modem? Not sure how to read it.

The stats are much better. When Bell switches you to 6016/800 fastpath it will be fine. For now you're still on 6016/512 interleave according to those stats posted.

Thanks HiVolt, your posts helped me a lot when talking to Teksavvy, once I asked for escalation the help was much better and I knew exactly what I had to ask for, in fact they referenced this message and your post.

It's only been 24 hours so I'm nto sure if the Fastpath is active, but is there anything that can explain the fluctuation in speed im seeing now? 5Mbit would max out and stay there, 6Mbit just fluctuates in the 500 KB/s range, hits a few spikes of 600 and then comes back down. Unless the Fastpath will fix that?

Thanks Martin, you have been a huge help, I love working through a ticket this way. The pricing aside, I would reocmmend Teksavvy to people just based on the support you provided, but the support did get much better once I got to escalations (you), I wouldn't necessarily have know to ask for escalations if not for posting on this forum first. It's also where I learned about being able to get on Fastpath.

Any reason why I would have the fluctuation in me speed since being on 6Mbit?

I don't see where to read it in the stats but I'm assuming they also moved me to Faspath.

Thanks!

At the beginning the AL1 is for Fastpath, AL2 for Interleave.

As for the constant speeds, I don't know what would cause it.

Martin,

There is no type of test to help determine why the speed fluctuates?

Hi Martin,

Anything back on this one for my fluctuating speed issue? Anything on my one that can be tested?

I'm not really certain about a specific test to run and test that.

Martin,

Isn't there someone from support that can help?

Well your stats are solid now at 6016/800 fastpath...

As for the speeds... Are you using the modem directly with your computer or are you using a 3rd party router?

HiViolt,

I'm using a Linksys e4200 router, pretty much with default settings. I am downloading from a PC that is connected wirelessly, Wireless-N.

Well, even though N should have more than enough capacity to max out 6meg dsl, you should try it wired first.

You might need to tweak your wireless settings, change channels, location of the router or the adapter in your pc.
