This in new for Canon; historically they have not added such sweeping improvements to products as old as this. Hopefully this is a new trend! (This is something I really liked about Pentax; they would frequently add wonderful new features years after a product was released)
Edit: firmware will be available in August 2012

Canon needs to step it up. FW release is a move in the right direction. |

So much for the "brand wars, trolling and flaming" restriction. |

| Sorry I hurt your feelings
The facts remain the 7D has an awful AF system, terrible high ISO performance and its DR is beaten by camera that cost half its price, on a APS-C.
Might as well get a 5D MkII for a little more money at that point. That's a good camera! |

ExitPremium,ExMod 2002 join:2001-04-10 Canada | reply to nklb I have to agree the 7D is a poor performer compared to other cameras these days. I think Canon did a good job tricking people into buying it |

 | reply to nklb TigerLord, you certainly did NOT hurt any feelings of mine. Good luck with that though.
I just find it funny that you call one of the best cameras out there a "POS", and to say it's AF system is "awful" when it is regarded as one of the best. I can also personally attest that it's high ISO performance is quite good. What do YOU consider high? 6400? It's an APS-C for goodness sakes.
I am not a camera pro like you probably claim to be, but I know what's good, and I know that I am not nearly alone in my opinions on this.
I am not a Canon fanatic like some here might claim me to be, but you Canon haters are a funny bunch. |

Note: UDMA 7 CF memory card read/write speeds are not fully supported with the EOS 7D Digital SLR camera, if using UDMA 7 memory cards, the read/write speeds will be equivalent to UDMA 6.
I don't understand what Canon is trying to do here. |

The AF system is fantastic. It's not as good as other cameras, but it's also three years old (at release).
The high ISO performance was great when it was released. Again, eclipsed by newer technology. Same deal with the dynamic range.
The one thing you should have mentioned, but didn't is the bullshit banding in shadows and relatively high noise in low ISO (100, 200) images.
