| ZyWALL 2WG freezes randomlyI have a weird situation where my ZyWALL 2WG freezes randomly a couple of times a month. The symptoms are: no connectivity (LAN or Internet), no reply when I try to ping it, cannot login via web or telnet. Can't see anything obvious in logs (I log to a linux box) Here is the log:

Any ideas how to debug this?
Thanks, Lac |

| Have you tried wired connection when this occurs?
Anything on the serial console?
Since you have linux box available connect the serial console to linux box and open minicom (and keep it open) and let it log everything to file. (Make sure you have proper console speed and communication bits set up, default is 115200 8N1.) |

1 edit | Ok I got terminal connected. Is there a way to test it? I want to be sure any diagnostic info will be written to console. This is what I get:
Bootbase Version: V1.08 | 11/01/2006 12:17:09
RAM:Size = 32 Mbytes
FLASH: Intel 64M
ZyNOS Version: V4.04(AQI.8) | 04/09/2010 08:59:04
Press any key to enter debug mode within 3 seconds.

| Are you sure you have that cable plugged into Console port and not into Aux port? It sure looks like it's in Aux (backup modem port). You should be seeing normal router login prompt.
Also double check your cable, according to manual: quote: Console: RJ-45 port for RS-232 null modem connection Dial Backup: RJ-45 port for RS-232 connection
|

 | Ok the output above was from Win2k HyperTerminal. I was able to connect from my linux box using cu and I do get normal login prompt. What can I do to make sure that any trace or debug info is captured? I couldn't see any cl commands... |

| Nothing. Just keep the window open for period of time and preferably redirect it to a file. ZyWall often spits debug/error messages and crash dumps to console during normal operation.
...just watch it, it's a long shot, but something useful may pop up there. |
|
 | So should I just leave it sitting at login screen or login and set stdio timeout to 0 and leave it like that? |
|
BranoI hate VogonsPremium,MVM join:2002-06-25 Burlington, ON kudos:6 | Don't need to login, just let it connected. |
