I am wondering on how safe is my data in the cloud and in transit. Assuming the data is stored encrypted on an Amazon server and I felt comfortable with that set-up, what are the risks in actually transferring the files from my desktop or server to the cloud. How would I ensure that the files are neither accessible to someone in transit or the provider of the upload program? |

I don't care what a "cloud" provider says their privacy policies are, I don't trust any of them to keep my data truly secure. Even if they encrypt it, they usually have the key.
The best way is to simply encrypt your data on your own machine prior to sending it to the cloud. I personally do it with GPG, but you can pick your own method. -- Getting people to stop using windows is more or less the same as trying to get people to stop smoking tobacco products.
