subsidized phone

How does a subsidized phone that you pay out of pocket have anything to do with signing a new contract? Is it not the same as taking a phone that you previously had and put it on the plan? I mean ????

I don't think you understand how phone contracts/new phones work.

Using CPE or Customer Provided Equipment does not change your data plan at all. If I lose my iPhone and go back to my old Blackberry - it is treated as my own equipment.
If you buy something on e-bay or Amazon etc. it is the same.

It only deals with new equipment purchased from Verizon.
