Cheap yet expensive

If Nadir Mohamed took a 2 Million dollar paycut (down to *gasp* 6.18 million) he could probably save all of these jobs and open up a couple more callcentres to boot.

If there's one good thing about this, it's that they're not getting any of my money.

Yea I don't think so. If you only wanted to save the next 400 from getting laid off you would need a hell of a lot more than $2M dollars. Lets assume the average salary is 35K before taxes. 400x35000=$14M. If you wanted to save the 300 before that as well 700x35K=$24.5M. That's not taking into account any type of health care or other expenditures that goes along with keeping an employee on the payroll.

The average salary is most likely well below 35K/year and aside from group dental and prescription coverage there are no other health care costs to cover. Still, your point stands, albeit your numbers are a bit by by a few million bucks.

You are correct, my math is wrong.

However, at 2 million he'd be saving 57 jobs, and Rogers doesn't offer any type of health benefits to their call center staff (they tried to recruit me in 2007 so I have some knowlege of their entry level offerings)

My opinion of Nadir remains; by your math if they just got rid of him, they'd save 251 jobs. (8.8 mil/35k = 251)

Fire the CEO, save the company... or at least make it so the company can support the business they already have...

In 2007 they attempted to recruit me at $15.68/hour with no benefits... that probably gives you a rough idea of how much they're spending on wages.

It's the bare minimum that's for sure.

I think since Nadir took over the company has been getting worse and worse..

Though, I do think that when companies lay off employees that government should tax them higher , since they are putting more into the unemployment figures and EI applications!

This wasn't just frontline workers they let go, six-figure management types went down too.

I realize "six-figure-management-types" have families too, but their landings are gonna be much gentler than the 30-35k types that just got canned.
