So what if it's obsolete. Just because it's obsolete doesn't mean you have to get a new phone every 1-2 years. I will never understand the "must always have the latest and greatest" mentality.

Assuming I still had a "dumb phone" I'd agree with you wholeheartedly. However the minute a new feature comes out that requires a more powerful phone, or a phone has a new feature that everyone wants, most people upgrade. I'm not saying I like it, but that's generally what happens.

I'd argue the blame lies both with phone manufacturers and with consumers.
