 alkizmo join:2007-06-25 Pierrefonds, QC kudos:1 | Ugh! Wasted weekend! This weekend was a 3 day weekend in Quebec (Saturday, Sunday, Monday).
My wife wanted me to repaint two bedrooms for our kids.
Fine... last year it was pretty fast when my parents and myself repainted the living room, dining room, kitchen and master bedroom. My wife was busy buying cleaning supplies and unpacking at that time (We had bought the house).
Now it was going to be just me and my wife this time, but it's only two smaller bedrooms.
1 - Unlike the previous year, this time there was major refinishing/sanding to be done on the baseboards and door frames. I almost felt like ripping them out and putting new ones, but I know I'd change the floors in a couple of years anyway. Extra time added
2 - One of the bedrooms had a pinkish red paint from the previous owners. We wanted sunny yellow for our soon to be born daughter. Even with top notch paint (Sherwin Williams), we used up the whole gallon doing two layers and we needed a third layer.
3 - 3 hours in, my wife declared she shouldn't be painting because she's pregnant and left everything for me to do.
This is the last day of the weekend. Our daugther's bedroom is finished and I only JUST started painting in my son's bedroom. Fortunately the original color was whitish-grey and his choice of color is lime green, so I should be fine with 2 layers...
BUT GOD #%*&&~!@ I HATE PAINTING!!! |

Just noticed your Quick! - Sheet sander or Orbital Sander thread. I suggest you review the budget and see if a painter can be hired. Your sanity would be worth more than you going through the struggles of properly prepping before painting....IMMHO |

| reply to alkizmo All project take time, 3 days isn't much at all ... but when everyone can plop there butt in a sofa and watch major remodels happen in 30 minute in the TV showes, its sets up some major expectation issues
I can dream up a years work in 10 minutes and have done enough project to now know better! |

I can dream up a years work in 10 minutes and have done enough project to now know better! My main problem is that I was left alone on the project right at the start when it was supposed to be a 2 person job.
Oh and I just finished cleaning the house floors as well... because she wouldn't do it until I finished all bedrooms and I felt it was unreasonable. and I used a mop!. She uses a swifter wet jet... ALL THE TIME! Not just for tidying up. |

However, this time was too extreme I suppose. Either way, we got a "pity" deal at the Sherwin Williams store, they gave us two quarts for the price of one because they saw that our previous order was for a whole gallon of the same paint. So we still paint less than with primer. and the effort would have been the same (Prime + 2 layers same as 3 layers no primer). |

Not like I'm not doing a ton of renovation to accomodate her parents that will be living with us for a year to help out with our new baby girl
I just really wanted to advance on the framing of the basement walls this weekend |
