 | Magic Jack Alternative After reviewing user comments and visiting the irritating MagicJack web site I decided to stay away from this company like the plaque. I found an alternative called NetDuo from a company called NetTalk. It is $20 cheaper than the MagicJackPlus and has the same $29.95 annual fee (the first year is included in the $49.95 purchase price.) After testing the unit I ported my phone number to it (for free). The company actually completed the port from AT&T on the day I specified on my port request. I love the blacklist capability where I can include numbers from past telemarketers that totally ignore the fact that my home phone has been on the Federal Do Not Call list since its inception. Great call quality. Glad I took the plunge, no problems so far. |

 | And why put up with paying $9.99 / year to keep your phone number on top of paying $19.99 to port it in the first place? Time to quit getting "Jacked" around - get it? |

 | reply to DocDigit Can someone post their experience with this product? Is it superior to the MJ+? I would jump ship IF it was tested as better, not just an alternative.... I have to constantly remind my wife through all of the MJ issues that things will get better.....but they don't seem to! |

 | So far I love my NetDuo, the quality is very good in my opinion, though I do have it near quite a bit of interference so any pops, or hisses are totally due to where I have it and not to its overall quality.
MagicJack had expired my number in 2010 but never bothered to show that on my account until this year 2012. I had been on the site December 2011 and didn't have any notice about my number being expired, etc. So my guess is if I were to renew it, I would most likely be billed for 2 years of previous service that never stated the phone number would expire...
Their customer service person I talked to was very rude and actually hung up on me when I told her that I had proof that this notice about my number expiring didn't appear on my account until this year 2012...
As for the MagicJack unit itself which I guess is what people are referring to as a "Dongle" (Sounds a bit austrailian to me). It's been paid up until 2015... so I'm out an additional 3 year because they decided to shove this expiration thing on me. |

I think a lot of us who used to post regularly in these parts have moved on from MJ for many reasons, as indicated in previous posts. Many moved to NetTalk, and I moved to GVJack. |

I use MJ+ ... Issues are very few .... Saves me Lots of money. I have recommended MJ T To many others and they all like MJ a lot.
I come here once in a while to see who's bitching and making noise
BTW, MJ has a very large number of active users ... I think it's close to 8 million but not 100% sure about that. -- David Mozer IT-Expert on Call Information Technology for Home and Business |

| reply to Sparky15 My MJ+ gets hot to the touch and "crashes" all the time. Most times I can pick up the hand set, hear a dial tone. When I dial, it makes the dialing sound, then drops back to dial tone. Or I can hear the the noise in my room on the phone over the dial tome. It sounds like a large room.
I haven't been a happy user of MJ or MJ+. As soon as I can, I'm going to jump ship. The only reason why I've stayed as long as I have is because it is cheap. But, because I'm not getting important phones calls [the MJ+ crashes, so all calls are directed to the voice message system. I've missed a couple of doctors appointments, and pharmacy pick up calls. I know I should contact their customer service, but after reading the horror stories of it here, I'm afraid to. -- Is a person a failure for doing nothing?
