| [Signals] Long aerial, serving four different units Setup:
Main house out front (duplex), with two cottages in the back yard. A Comcast aerial comes from the street, all the way to the back of the lot's cottage, where I presume it's then split, and then individual aerials from there go to my cottage and up to the duplex.
How do these look? And is fixing what strikes me as a wiring disaster something Comcast will do without charge?

Yes it is something for ComCast to fix, getting it done before it breaks may be another story. It doesn't hurt to call it in. |

rg6 can feed a whole complex if the signal is clean enough....rf doesnt care what kind of coax its on....

I live in a duplex and there are two seperate RG 6 drops going to the street. Both originally came from the underground pedestal into the front of the house but both have since been replaced with mine replaced with another underground line and that comes around the back of the house and the neighbor's line was replaced with an aerial that comes in on his side of the duplex as the utilities in adjacent lots come in overhead.
The drop you are referring to is probably hardline and that probably goes to a lockbox (which houses a tap) and then is split to the individual units. This is so they can disconnect the lines when there is no active subscriber in the unit to prevent things such as cable theft, signal leakage, ingress, etc. With certain types of MDUs, the lines going from the lockbox to the individual living units are the responsibility of the landlord or the landlord will tell the tenant to foot the bill for rewiring the apartment. My duplex is wired like a single family except it has two drops going to the street. The telephone is wired differently as the demarc for both units comes through my basement although the neighbor doesn't have a home phone. |
