EdrickI aspire to tell the story of a lifetimePremium join:2004-09-11 Woburn, MA | Display different desktops to TV I've got a client who has a home office I'm trying to think of the easiest setup for this situation.
They have multiple Windows based computers that they would like to display to a flat screen TV. So this is basically for example boardroom style.
From any PC they'd like the ability to pop up their screen onto the TV. Is there any type of device that will allow this to work easily (basically like AirPlay).
Aside from running a video out from every computer into a video switcher is there some type of network based solution where I can mount a device behind the TV that receives / decodes from an application on their computers. -- Edrick Smith Independent Film & Broadcast Producer »edricksmith.com |

There might be a more elegant solution, i'm just not aware of it. |

So something needs to work between A and B to make it seamless. |

 | reply to Edrick Laptops or desktops? The good ol' dsub connector, or HDMI or display port is your best bet.
I think there are IP-enabled projectors, but you're looking at in the 5 figures starting for this piece of kit.

I'm having issues grasping what your client is trying to accomplish. Is the TV in the living room and the computers in other locations around the home? So junior in bedroom1 is at his computer and outputs his display to the living room TV then goes to the living room to watch? Oh wait, I need to pause...back to the bedroom! Now if they have a laptop or PC in the same room as the TV something like this will work. » www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a···15306033-- "Intellectuals solve problems, geniuses prevent them." For starters is highly unlikely the PC's and the TV are even at the same resolution, IP gets around that |

EdrickI aspire to tell the story of a lifetimePremium join:2004-09-11 Woburn, MA | reply to Edrick They have a home office, with multiple windows based computers in that same room. Desktops and Laptops they would like the ability to display any of them (one at a time) to that TV. So basically if him, his wife and an assistant are working and they want to show a landscape plan they can pop it up on the TV.
The best scenario is something like AirPlay where they can just feed it to the TV that way they don't need say one computer with all the different apps.
Something like the newegg link would work except needs to be multiple computers. -- Edrick Smith Independent Film & Broadcast Producer »edricksmith.com |

If it was me, I would probably split each VGA signal at each computer, and then throw in a KVM switch. Then they can just turn on the TV, switch to the VGA input, and select the computer on the KVM switch to display the video on the TV. -- CheckSite.us | YourIP.us | Reverseip.us |

EdrickI aspire to tell the story of a lifetimePremium join:2004-09-11 Woburn, MA | The problem then becomes the cost of running DVI / VGA / HDMI cabling to each work station and the size of the conduit and getting a switcher. I had thought about just sending individual video signals or remote desktop type solution but both to me are either "old fashioned" or "too complicated" for the customer. I like to keep it simple, I suppose I could do VGA Baluns in the worse case. |

EdrickI aspire to tell the story of a lifetimePremium join:2004-09-11 Woburn, MA | If I understand synergy from the past alls it does is allow you to share the keyboard mouse of one computer to others. This still would require them to have a PC at the TV with all the software.
The product posted above will do just as I need hardware solution that you just install a piece of presenter software on |

 | reply to Edrick ah k yes i misread the question and was quick to suggest. was wonderin why no one said synergy. apologies. |

Connects the TV to USB: »www.encore-usa.com/us/product/ENMUV-2 Connects the USB to Ethernet: »www.encore-usa.com/us/product/ENNUS1
They have this on Newegg for a decent price. The USB hub can support 5 devices simultaneously so if you had 5 TVs you wanted to have access to in the board room then you would have 5 DVI to USB adapters and those all plugged into 1 USB to Ethernet server.
The software is easy to install and straight forward but we have had issues of the TV adapter not showing for upwards of 10 seconds in the device list. However, once we connected there was very little lag on picture. -- "I have measured out my life with coffee spoons..." - T.S Eliot "I have often regretted my speech, never my silence." - Publilius Syrus Ma blog: »www.johndball.com |
