[Exede] Bottom Line

Exede, whatever it isn't, is adding value to my home. Any realtor will tell you that in today's market, country property has to have internet access. Like satellite TV, satellite internet covers me. Comes with all the satellite related downsides; latency, jitter, dap-fap and with the inherent limitations of big corporate management blinders.

I wish I could afford to recommend it to my neighbors. When they ask, all I can say is "Google Exede". That way I don't get to apologize when .......

Mean while, until the FIOS or the wireless or the low orbit answer gets here.

I'm good,

Good for you. Someone who will appreciate and thankfully eat the 6 month old vegetarian humanitarian MRE meals when 60 year old saltine crackers are the only other choice.

It's the MBA schools...but, its the stock holders who demand accountability, and of course profits.

Its a company with a product to sell, at a profit...I have no qualms with that.

Well, since the big wind of 2012, I have lost power and phone, but still have water and gas pressure. A little ole 10 KW generator with auto switch and the satellite dishes makes for a reasonable environment as long as I keep dumping the house air every morning and move to the basement in the afternoon.

Or just go fishing.

(MRE yum, HoooRah!)

Well, I'm still pleased. It's 3.1 miles to the nearest cable system, almost 5 miles to the nearest telephone switch and DSL and my old wireless 2.6 MHz supplier just shut the system down. We've still got the g3 hotspot on the iPhone as a back up but haven't had to invoke it for several days. My exede modem stays locked even after DTV goes all white. When it does shut down in weather, I am beginning to depend on it getting well without attention, once the southwest sky clears. Still haven't got the whole DAP routine down. When I want a big download for system maintenance, I just do it. It's almost like being connected to the internet! The changing package routine on the chat with ViaSat seems painless.. When my iMac wanted a 3.6Gb download to make itself into a OSX 10.7.4 I just said OK and watched it happen. Real time. OMG. This is just like real internet!

The power is back up. The AC is back on. Got to clean up the downed trees, but my dishes are still working.

Wish I knew which beam, which uplink site and which data center, but hey, so far, so good.

Guess I'll just go fishing.

Tracert sez Salt Lake City, Utah. I'd guess that means beam 328 goes thru Milford earth station and then to Salt Lake data center. I don't care, all it has to do is keep working.

Bought OS X Mountain Lion today. DL was 4+ GB and happened in under 45 minutes. Great day, that's just like real internet!

Got an Email from our ISP, "Hey Boy, you've exceeded 70% of your BW for the month. Guess the usage meter has finally turned itself on.

Apple software wanted to send me another 3+ GB of updates... have to wait for a coffee shop visit. (although both my Cardiologist and my Orthopedic surgeon seem to have open guest wifi with very high data rates.) O well, it'll all work out.

I burned a copy of Mountain Lion for the other macs and spent nearly an hour doing the DVD write and verify. That's slow for a guy like me with HIGH SPEED internet in the home.

Well, our house is full of Grandkids this week. They've been on the river twice and it's time to FISH or CUT BAIT.

Can't wait,

"To determine your LoveLock, NV Gateway"

Too bad Dr. S, I know you would have loved the lovlok yourself.

So we guess my Earth Station (gateway) is LoveLock,Nv and the data center is SLC, Utah??

Great to know. Greater to know how well it's working! Me and Mountain Lion are good! even with an IP from Nebraska.

Have a great evening.

Correct, your POP is in SLC...

IP from Nebraska.

I've been tagged from being from California, Colorado, Nebraska, Montana, Texas, etc., and different states back east.

Here, see if AT&T can figure out where you are from...upper right corner: »www.att.com/speedtest/

SLC? They say Phoenix for my location, which is where my server is located.
