New Computer... Dell XPS 2710 AIO

Sorry for the crappy pictures, I misplaced my camera after doing a massive cleanup.

I've been wanting a new computer for some time now, and found that Dell XPS 2710 All-in-One. This is the 27" screen.

I'm still adjusting to this larger screen. My previous computer had 1 24" Wide and 1 19" Wide.

The keyboard is tiny, but I really like it.

Specs:

• Windows 7 Professional

• 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i5-3450s processor (up to 3.50 GHz)

• 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 1600MHz - 2 DIMMs

• 1TB 7200RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

• 8X Slot Load CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-R Drive)

• Non-Touch 27" Full High Definition (2560x1440) WLED Display with Webcam

• NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M 2GB GDDR5

• Dell Wireless 1703 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0+LE

• Dell KM632 Wireless Keyboard & Mouse

• Mouse included with Keyboard purchase

• Integrated 5.1 with WAVES MAXXAudio 4

• Hybrid Digital ATSC/QAM analog TV tuner Card

•Integrated 10/1000 Ethernet

Seems like Dell is trying to compete with Apple as that looks an awful lot like the latest generation 27" iMac.

Yes! On my desk and under my desk! No more bulky computer case taking up space, extra heat, etc.

Yep -- and I believe this one will give them a run for their money. Consumers & businesses looking for an all-in-one, running Windows, will find this unit to be the perfect item.

The previous AIO's from Dell were terrible (IMO).

It's a nice AIO system to be sure.

One of the problems with AIO systems though is expansion and upgrades. Since Intel Thunderbolt has come to the PC market with Intel Ivy Bridge systems and is basically DisplayPort + PCIe expansion it addresses a known shortcoming specific to AIO systems.

One would think we will start to see Intel Thunderbolt on newer portable (laptops and some tablets) and AIO system soon, not just some Z77 motherboards.

No one said he liked those either. I'm allergic to all-in-ones, they're the reason we have a service contract with Dell; the Optiplex's we can generally fix ourselves without issue.

AIO computers are kind of an acquired taste I find. I can't tell you how Many iMacs I support at work that have Windows 7 on them and never get booted into OSX or how many Sony AIOs I have purchased for Faculty to use at home.

My other half has a thing for the HP touch smarts. We got one in 2009 and it was just ok, cd-r / dvd made noise from day one and stopped working about two years later as well as both CPU fans make some awful noises sometimes.

We purchased one of the new Touchsmarts last month and it seems to be alot better than before. Plus with an i7, 8gb memory, 2TB hard drive and blu-ray burner it was a pretty good deal.

not quite right
I'm not cool enough to be a Mac person

I've found the AIO's have improved dramatically. I didn't like the original HP touchsmarts.

I thought you could get Pro on the H/HO side, I've seen it offered as a upgrade when building.
