RobIn Deo speramus.Premium join:2001-08-25 Kendall, FL kudos:3 | Found an iPhone I found an iPhone in my work's parking lot. It's locked, so I wasn't able to find any contacts.
But that got me thinking. Wouldn't it be a good idea to have a "Contact" # under the Emergency screen that would allow anyone to contact a pre-defined number? The number would be hidden, but you could have it programmed to call your spouse, or someone?
I think it would be a good idea. -- CheckSite.us | YourIP.us | Reverseip.us |

In the past when we've lost phones we just called that number until someone answered. |

If you google "found lost iPhone" the first 14 hits are assholes trying to break into it and use it as their own.

You sir qualify as a pretty cool guy. Yea, it's pretty sleezy. As an iPhone user, I can only remotely imagine (from similiar experiences) what it must be like to realize you've lost your phone. -- CheckSite.us | YourIP.us | Reverseip.us |

You may have to put it into restore mode to get around the password lock, but I don't remember. |

| reply to Rob You can always pop the SIM, call AT&T and read them the serial number on the card to report that you've found it. Assuming the sim is in there.

I usually find my wife's and then tell her where she left it last OMG, I left mine on the light rail one morning, and watched it on Find My iPhone go to the terminus of the line. Called the light rail operator and they assured me that the driver would probably find it while he swapped ends of the train. They had me meet the car on the way back down the line and got my phone back! Phew! |

We used to get cell phones and credit cards turned in all the time. I wouldn't involve the police unless absolutely necessary.
For Cell phones, I would look through contacts for "Home" or something like that... not very useful if it was locked, but this was back before people really locked their phones... If I couldn't do anything with it, I would take it down to the corporate store of whoever the carrier was.
For credit cards, I would call the issuing bank, identify myself, and inform them that the card had been found and should be cancelled. I actually had one of them call the police on me... It was an all around mess. -- I'm tired of killing stupid people just trying to do my job and go home! |

| reply to Rob According to the recent WWDC keynote, the forthcoming iOS6 will display, once the owner activates "Find My iPhone", a direct link on the lock screen to have the iphone dial a preset number, presumably where the owner is. It's not a big change as owner could easily post a message that says "I lost my phone, call me at..." and the person who finds it could use their own phone (but it's handy if they don't have access to a phone). FWIW, my lock screen (both iPad and iPhone) includes the following text "if found please contact..." with my home phone and email address, nicely formatted on a cool Apple logo. |
