Exactly, this is no different than someone walking into a gun store and saying they are going to ship their gun purchase to Iran, Mexico, etc. If the merchant still conducts the transaction, he or she is culpable, end of story. -- Everyone should own a Mac! I'm sure the sales associate would love the sale... but the second he was informed of this, it became illegal to sell it to her.
It's unfortunate, but the Apple store, Apple, and the sales associate all acted under U.S. law and are in the clear.
