 | What Internet speed would best fit my needs? I was a WOW! customer four years ago, before I moved to an area of town that has no wired high-speed Internet options. Soon I'll be able to get WOW! again and I know a lot has changed over the past four years. Anything they offer is going to seem like a huge improvement to me since I'm coming from slow, daily bandwidth-capped HughesNet satellite Internet service. I'd like to get the best speed for how I plan to use the Internet. Except for when we have visitors it will be only my wife and I in the house most of the time. We plan to get Netflix or Hulu Plus so there will be some video streaming. I do a little online gaming but not a lot. There will be a little file sharing but nothing crazy. The rest would just be email, general web surfing and the occasional YouTube videos.
I know the 50Mbps tier is out. My wife would scream about paying that much and I know it would just be a waste for us anyway. I was leaning towards the 15Mbps or 30Mbps tier and wasn't sure which would best suit us. I'm sure the 30Mbps tier would do what we need but I'd rather go with the 15Mbps if it would be fast enough for us.
I guess I could always try the 15Mbps for a while and see how it works out and then change to the 30Mbps later if need be. For those of you that may have needs similar to mine, what speed do you have and does it seem to work well for you?
Thanks for your opinions.

If you had more users or are frequently downloading large (>1GB) files, only then would you see a real advantage from 30 Mbps. If you do a lot of uploading of files or pictures you could also benefit from the higher tiers.
I would go ahead and do what you were thinking - try the 15 Mbps to start and upgrade if you find it's not fast enough. Either way, I'm sure you will find it blows away what you have been using. |

 | reply to bfollowell3 15/2 here, four users in the household, and it's *still* overkill.
If they still offered the 8/1 tier, I know we'd be happy with that.
Really, overkill isn't better--it's just overkill. |

 | reply to bfollowell3 I think the 15Mbps tier would be just fine for what you are doing. It's what I am using, and I can online game, I watch HBO Go, I have Netflix, I have Hulu, I have 2 kids. Things are just fine. I'm not interested in paying anymore, so I'll stick right here. |

 | reply to bfollowell3 Thanks guys. I really appreciate everyone's input. I think you've answered my question for me. It looks like we'll be going with the 15/2. Like several of you said, if for some odd reason I decide it isn't fast enough for me (not very likely from the sound of it), I can always call and have my service upgraded.
Thanks again to everyone that responded.

 | reply to bfollowell3 The 15mb service is pretty great. Most people would be ok with 8mb, but it's the 15mb is the same price, and loads things a lot faster. No waiting for 1080P Youtube to buffer, FAST downloads, I love it. Stick with that, and if for some reason it won't be enough, all it takes is a phonecall and a few minutes to reboot the modem to get it bumped up. |
