 | Lag spikes causing disconnects and long pauses from games. Hi, I'm new to Comcast here. I just switched over from Verizon DSL to Comcast HSI because of the speeds they offered. There are no Fios here. I have been getting random spikes consistently these today. When they installed the service, I had already brought my own DOCSIS 3.0 modem butit didn't arrive in time for the guy to install it so he used one of his, a DOCSIS 2.0. So I got the modem the day after the installation and called Comcast to active my new modem. I gave the mac id, serial number, and model name (that process was lengthy, not sure if the rep was knowledgeable in this area). Haven't had the chance to game much before my new modem was installed so I can't tell you if it was the new modem's fault.
- Boston Metro Area, MA - Lag spikes in game that causes long pauses and disconnects, while the lag happens I check to see if other websites load slower and it doesn't. - Constant lag today, random yesterday. Played a couple rounds of BF3 yesterday without any problems until today, getting disconnected every 5 minutes or so. Had the spikes yesterday in Diablo 3 throughout yesterday and today. - Motorola SB6121 - I am using a router and a Ooma (broadband phone provider)
My modem signals are attached. |

Those downstream levels seem high as well but not out of spec.
Are you using a Amp? |
|
 | Amp from the router? I am not. I got the signals from my wireless computer. Not sure if that makes any difference. |

| By amp i mean amping the connection to your modem.
I would get a tech out there to look at the signal levels. Something seems odd.
And yes, it is possible to have to high of signal levels.
Do you mind posting your modem event log? |
|
 | reply to jonnejon Not sure if I amping my modem. Just stock I guess, didn't do anything to it. |

| reply to jonnejon If you are stock then you aren't using an amp.
You probably want to shield your mac address and not expose that to the public. Your even log shows your modem mac address.
I would still get a tech out there to look at as they can see more of whats going on then we can form the modem.
Another idea is to try plugging directly and avoid the router and see what happens. |

 | Okay, thank you pclover. Will try it without the router tomorrow. |
|
 | reply to pclover I have the performance package, which they said was 20 MBits down and 4 MBits up.
Not sure if the signals meet the specs? |

 | reply to jonnejon You posted downstream codeword error rates (which look really good). Where are your upstream codeword error rates? I know this modem shows them in the GUI. |

 | reply to TechnoScott Where do I find this? There is a status , signals, logs, configuration, and helps page. The screenshot I posted was everything in the signals page. |

andyrossPremium,MVM join:2003-05-04 Schaumburg, IL | reply to jonnejon Try the Visualware QUALITY test.
Start here: »myspeed.visualware.com/index.php
Pick the US, then pick one of the YELLOW pushpins that are closest to you (hover over to see where it actually is). Once the initial speed test screen loads, try the Quality test in the list on the right. This gives more detailed information about packet loss and other issues.
This is a Java-based test.
Otherwise, all I can think is that your signals are too hot. The upstream could be so low that it actually has trouble hearing it. Ideally, you'd want downstream to be +/-5, and upstream in the 40's. You could try using a splitter or pad to try and weaken the signal a bit. Some modems don't like signals that are too strong. |

 | reply to jonnejon Perhaps I've been out in my bucket for too long. Most of the older D2 modems had upstream codeword error rate information right in the GUI. Maybe the D3's don't... |
