 | quote: Global Payments came forward as the processor at the center of the breach. No more than 1.5 million accounts were affected, the company said last week.
But it is not yet clear whether this relates to the Global Payments breach earlier this year or not.
Grrrrrr. "No more than" 1.5 million accounts. Don't say that like it's a good thing. |

 | reply to daveinpoway I have banked with one of the majors for 15 years. Same account. I've had their online banking service that has been around for many years. I also used to work for them and know that they are very proactive and aggressive on security issues and fraud both with outsiders, customers, and their employees.
That said in the context of the OP I wonder if the following is connected:
Yesterday they informed me online that I needed to change my online password that I've had for the life of the account and that I needed to increase the password strength with the new one I chose. I called the bank to make sure the password request was legit and it was. I then easily changed the password. |

| reply to daveinpoway I had a credit card compromised in the earlier Global Payments theft. This makes at least three times this has happened in the last ten years due to incompetence at payment processing companies and it's getting real old. -- Pain is weakness leaving the body |

 | Chase, I recall many here use Chase and I warned them not to..
Pro-tip, find a small local credit union, and fall in love with them. Kill the big banks, giving them money only prolongs the life of these evil behemoths. Small local credit unions in some cases, are somewhat antiquated and off-grid. I know CU's that still connect via dialup. Those are the way to go these days. Of course, using prepaid credit cards online is very smart, that goes without saying, as the risk is zero of anything being compromised that can be used against you. Locally, go back to cash.. Govt. hates cash business, and people using cash, it causes a loss of tracking from them, a sort of off-grid method.
CU's, Prepaids, Cash - all viable things to change over to.. |
