i have been installing MSE and most of my computers recently. Do I need to do that with MBAM, or should I dump MBAM and switch MSE?
THANK YOU. |

| Keep both as it's an extra layer of protection...........just do manual scans with MBAM.
Same for Spywareblaster or a Hosts file. -- ~~Get our troops home...now!!~~ |

you need to have MSE, or some other antivirus program, installed.. "malwarebytes" can be used, in realtime, as a supplement to a antivirus program, assuming that there are no conflicts between the two..
so, my advice is to use MSE, and, if you want to experiment with running "malwarebytes", in realtime, along with MSE, you can do that..
if you use "malwarebytes" in realtime, one feature that it has is to block access to ip addresses that are used for malicious purposes.. of course it is not going to block access to all malicious content, but it will block access to a lot of ip addresses that are used for malicious purposes.. in my opinion, that malwarebytes-feature, where it blocks many IP addresses that are used for malicious purposes, is pretty good at helping to prevent a malware-infection..
personally, i don't use "malwarebytes" in realtime because i think that it might conflict with other stuff that i have on my computer, but that wouldn't be an issue for everyone.. different people choose to use different programs.. some people choose to use "malwarebytes" in realtime and some people don't..
i have never tried using "MSE", but i think that it is a good program.. |

As to having it on board, and even running it realtime right along with MSE, neither will play poorly with the other. It's just another layer of protection and will not hurt at all. I run many things, realtime and not, as a layered experience, and am happy in the end that I have and do. -- JKK

You all have confirmed what I always that was true - MBAM is a good supplement, but not a full service program. The disc has to be "fdisked" (love that term) and Win7 reinstalled - after some unknown event....
As for running MBAM in real time, I may not want to that - if for no other reason, my son is a gamer and speed is ALL he cares about. The less running is likely better.
I found this thread that tells a way to avoid conflicts: »Re: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
THANK YOU ALL for the input. |

 | reply to R2 I choose to use a layered approach.
According to Malwarebytes:
[quote Malwarebytes products have a proven record of protecting computers by completely removing all forms of malware, including viruses, Trojans, spyware, adware and rootkits. When it comes to the safety of your computer, Malwarebytes provides the ultimate in protection from the cutting edge of technology! »www.malwarebytes.org/
I have the free version which doesn't provide real time shield protection. I periodically run manual scans.
According to Microsoft:
quote: Microsoft Security Essentials is a new, free consumer anti-malware solution and spyware protection for your computer. It helps protect against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. The tool offers free spyware protection, and it's available as a no-cost download for Windows XP SP2 and higher, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.
I also Superantispyware with active protection and Spyware Blaster that uses a passive or immunization protection.
I've never encountered a conflict between the four programs. |

 | reply to R2 If it hasn't already been activated, activate the "trial" pro version. If you like how it works, pay them the paltry $24 for the lifetime license to get auto updates and run full time. You then get a "flash scan" mode as well as the standard quick and deep scans.
If you don't like it, it'll expire and revert to the free version. |
