Porting a Verizon DV to Voipo

I have been very happy with Voipo service and am considering porting a my Verizon Digital Voice number across for a second separate line.

Exactly how long would the porting process take?

I need to know so I do not cut off the Verizon service too quickly as I change from a TriplePlay to DoublePlay service with Verizon.

I don't know either service well, so I don't have a specific answer to your question, but the general approach is that you want the port from "A" to "B" completed before you cancel the DID/service with "A". Moreover, the completion of the port effectively cancels the DID with "A". So... ?

Ports can take anywhere from 1 day to 10 weeks, depending on the behavior of the losing carrier. Ask the carrier you are porting to, and they will tell you how long it usually takes. Each one is different.

When you port the number away, the losing carrier normally makes the adjustments to your account. Follow-up to make sure it is done correctly, but it is usually best not to do or say anything until the porting is complete.

I told the carrier what was likely to happen because I was pricing DP from a TP account. They offered no idea of a time frame. I did tell them I would keep the TP alive until the porting was executed.

Normally, Verizon will make the adjustment to your account when the number is ported away. You will need to follow-up to make sure the account is correct when they are done.

You will need to contact Voipo to get a time estimate for the number port. I would guess at about three weeks from when you submit the porting order. Make sure the name, address, and account number match 'exactly' as shown on the Verizon bill. Many losing carriers will use any excuse they can find to delay the port so they can continue to bill you.

A little off topic, but the above reminded me of this:
