Who is getting 300/65?

Just wondering who is going to order this? Whoever does please post speed test results. I am especially interested in the ones to the VZ web100 java based speed test server.

Since my second business line is dynamic I am seriously considering switching that over to residential to save $80+/month.

I upgraded to 300 today.

»speedtest.verizon.com/fios300/
Comes back saying 314.23 down and 72.9 up.

From what nycdave told me I expected no better but could you real quick also check the java based one as the ookla applet is not as accurate on upstream. I see the one you linked to is a new flash one they added.

I got 148.75 down and 60.99 up but I am also doing other traffic although it is looking like my connection was actually down for a few hours from my network graphs until i just got home a few minutes ago =(. First outage in 2 years.

Oh nevermind this must be a different flash test than the one ookla uses for speedtest.net. I just tested it from my machine at work to the LA server and it does the test for 10 seconds making it extremely accurate and it is actually very high capacity on the upstream (would be nice if speedtest.net used this version).

Obviously it can handle whatever upload FIOS can through at it considering I got this @ 20ms latency:

The new Verizon Ookla site is using an updated Ookla client which is able to properly handle the high uploads on FiOS...

Thats cool. I could never get more than 200-300 megabits (in extremely low latency situations with normal being 60-80 megabits) with the normal ookla client. The unfortunate thing is it looks like the upload on 300/65 is ~75 mbit as well which means no upgrade for me.

I am hoping that when it comes out for business its significantly cheaper but since my second line is already DHCP due to small business not being able to give me an IP in a different netblock I am seriously considering just moving that back to residential to save the money as the small business isn't getting me anything now.

Unless nycdave, you have some insider information that would suggest when the new packages come out for small business it might have more upload? but that seems unlikely.

I would prefer not to do this as it will require a complete disconnet/reconnect order and it was already a huge pain getting my second line setup before. Might be worth it to wait to see what prices are after its out for small business (willing to wait a few months) so then maybe I can just re-up on the price and not have to do a disconnect/reconnect.

So here is my question, is there a downside to being a "residential" customer? I'm a residential user, but opted for the business class services because, I use copious amounts of data and like the static IP.

But I do want the 300 package! Is there a downside to be a residential customer? Do you think I should just chill my jets and wait for the 300 to hit business users? Do they penalize residential users for data usage?

Nope

Your just getting a static IP being on business, that's it

REALLY?! Thats it, I feel like I've been getting ripped off then! Not to thread hijack, so it would make sense to ditch the business line and get a residential line and just run DYNDNS.

And the connection is still delivered over Cat5?

Ripped off? please post back where you can get 165/75 and a static IP for less

The equipment is identical, the only difference is billing and your static IP vs Dynamic for residential

Nothing new, be discussed for years here ..

Well ripped off was a bit harsh... Compared to residential its more... But you're 100% right... This is the best plan and package in my area (or any area that I know of).

Thinking of the switch...

Why is it in my area I can only get 75/35 and nothing higher?

Most likely you are in a BPON market. The higher tiers require a central office with GPON equipment.

bummer when would my central office switch over to GPON?

Now that is a question I think other people would be best suited answering...

If dynDNS will work for you sure. I used to have dual 35/35. I got the second ONT by ordering business so I had residential 35/35 + business 35/35. I pushed the same amount of traffic over both (around 20TB/month between the two so 10 TB each) outbound and verizon never made a peep.

The thing is i like static cause I have some things that are authenticated by IP and its annoying to have to update it when it does change and its better for servers and for 150/65 it was worth the difference (like $10) the cheapest of all business services as 50/20 was like $40 more for a static IP (LOL).

I'm just scared of some of the words in the ToS for residential users.

Just chimeing in, I have residential 35/35 right now and I've had the same IP for over a year. Had a power outtage that lasted a whole day, swapped routers couple weeks ago without releasing the IP, had to call customer service, etc//etc.. still got the same IP.

Just ordered 75/35 today, my IP will prolly be the same, I'll know once I get home from work.

Did the IP change? Speed improvement?
