1 edit | Macbook Pro - Help decide... With the release of the retina display MBP, it seems that there are a few good deals to be had on previous models. I'm going to go out this weekend and pick one up and I'm a bit torn. I'm definitely looking for a 15" model but my indecision comes with picking between a later 2011 model (2.2 GHz) and the new (2.3 GHz) models available. I know there are also differences between 1333 MHz RAM and 1600 MHz RAM as well as the video card. My main uses will be typical home/Starbucks web surfing, working on Word and Excel and very light Photoshop editing (I will do the heavy stuff on my iMac). I *might* want to install FCP for some quick movie editing but again, the heavier stuff will be handled on the iMac. I might transfer my music to it to listen to while I work. So that's the planned usage for the MBP. No matter what model I get, I plan to upgrade the RAM first then, in time, get a larger HD. There is an "older", 2011 MBP being held for me at my local BB that was a return. I was able to inspect it for about 30 minutes last night and there isn't a thing wrong with it. It's going for $1,420. A "new" MBP with a student discount will be $1,699 (both prices are pre-tax). So what is the consensus? Should I just spend the difference ($279) and just order the "new" or save the money and just get the "older"? Any and all opinions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and happy father's day!
