 | Is A Harley Rake Worth The Rental? Hey folks,
I've got 30 yards of loam coming in that I'm going to spread across 100' x 40' of lawn to level it out. Renting a BobCat to assist. Once I get this spread, I plan to hydroseed.
My question is, whether or not I should rent a Harley Rake to assist with getting it all level. If I want the Harley Rake, I have to go with a different rental company that's a bit more expensive and in the end will cost me an extra $320. Is the Harley Rake worth it? Or, with say 4 hours of work could I get this spread and leveled nicely with a normal landscape rake?
Thanks |

I think the rake Harley would give a more consistent surface. My neighbor used the hand rake method, and after a year of so, found that the surface became uneven. |

 | Dirt. Fairly level right now, but needs to be raised in a few areas and I'm adding 2" across the board. |

 | reply to NullQwerty You'll need way more than 4 hrs with a rake. If you add 2" you'll have to compress it evenly or it will be very uneven after the first rain. |

Hard to say but we had the power rake done last year. Awesome piece of equipment! You can see what it did in a single pass. They kept doing that for 4 hours to level the area. |

 | reply to NullQwerty So, to update. While it would have been nice to have the harley rake, I went without it, and it wasn't bad at all. A little hard work, but not something that would have justified the extra $300. I'm sure the harley rake would have done a better job, but the normal landscape rake did fine on it's own. Looks flat and nice. Truth is, I probably would have gone for it, but the area is surrounded by a privacy fence, I didn't know how well the harley rake would do trying to get close to the fence, so....
Thanks for everyone's help. |
