There was nothing speedy about this project. I think I started around thanksgiving and chipped away at it mostly on weekends and sometimes not for two weeks. If speed were an issue, then certainly more professionals would have been hired. You're scaring me. I plan on taping and mudding about 650 SQF of wall.
Side note - Funny, my wife chose the same paint color for our dining room as well. Supposed to be the fashion or something. I don't like it too much though. |

 | reply to sempergoofy The old light fixture you put back looks fine i don't see anything wrong with it. The floor register looks fine however i don't like the way it sticks up (is raised higher then the rest of the floor). Unless maybe that is to prevent dirt from being mopped into the duct or something. |

Unless maybe that is to prevent dirt from being mopped into the duct or something. Personal preference I guess. They do make flush fitting wooden registers. I've not seen the flush fit ones in the big box stores, but I do see them online. Since stepping on the registers is a no-no to me anyway, and since I'm okay with the looks of the raised style, I'm happy.
The raised ones come with two long brass screws to secure them if you wish. Since I don't have small kids that would mess them, I just drop them in and let gravity hold them. (I guess you could potentially get some hovering with strong air flow if the register was closed and that might require securing with screws.) -- nohup rm -fr /& |

Watch lots (and I mean lots!) of videos on youtube if you have never done it because no "one" source is the best. Learn and remember the tricks before you start. I wish youtube had existed before I did my first DIY taping and mudding 30 years ago. I had to use this thing they call a "book." If you have the time and patience, it will go fine.
On the paint topic, I was scared of the color too when it was chosen for the kitchen/den. (The dining room is a few shades darker, but still very similar.) But I went looking online and saw decorating ideas for that color that eased my concerns. -- nohup rm -fr /& |

Our dining room was basically the same color as well for several years. My wife recently repainted. You did a great job. Maybe throw some crown up there?

I don't like shades on the chandeliers. We have a double tiered one that looks nice. No shades. It can become a little dated looking in my opinion. -- Stopping someone from saying another person is stupid doesn't make the stupid person no longer stupid. |
