 | Incumbents vs TPIA small rant We received a flyer from Cogeco today advertising their newest deal only 19.95 a month for 12 months (goes up by 13 at the end of 12 months with a 75 ETF) 4Mbps package with a "generous" 15GB cap (only 1.50/GB to a max of 50 per month for overage). Are you freaking kidding me in this day and age 15 GB can be considered as "generous"? While I understand that they are a business and out to make money do they really not get it? Losing customers to TPIA providers who are using your own infrastructure and not even attempting to offer a COMPETITIVE package? Is it because they still believe that they are the only game in town? We downloaded a game for the PS3 the other day that was 11 GB by itself, and some of my friends ask why I stick with my 6Mbps DSL connection, at least it is unlimited through Start. If they some day offer a package via cable for around 500 GB per month we would probably jump at it. Venting rant over. |

 | Come on....this allows you to download 3000 songs or 15...count it...15 "Standard Def" movies (but wait...isn't downloading movies consider piracy? Hmm...what are they endorsing). Tell me that isn't better than all the other options out there.
Even "Grandpa" is happy with it. Can't be all that evil.
*Note the sarcasm* |

*Note the sarcasm* Not saying I don't loathe their bullshit but there are plenty of legal movies; i.e. Netflix and free, mostly independant movies, elsewhere. |

 | Netflix is streaming per say, not downloading. Their ad on the radio should indicate "STREAM 15 standard def movies". |

 | reply to Toastertech Cogeco stated more than once, that if you are a value driven customer, then you are an undesirable on their network. They are looking for ignorant customers, that don't expect much service and pays up with no questions asked.
There's a simple test to pass to become one of their clients: Pick up their flyer, Read it, If you drink the KoolAid and think its good value, then congratulations you passed the test and can be one of their clients.
Here are supporting links on Cogeco actually stating good riddance to customers leaving for better value:
»Cogeco: Smart Shoppers are 'Undesirable'
With an attitude like that, you can't be surprised they are not competing for clients. |

I guess people will cancel after, and maybe they will give a retention deal... Just like how most big telecoms comp do.
Heck even some wholesalers do it... |

Heck even some wholesalers do it... Oh probably, but the funny part is Louis Audet from Cogeco specifically blamed their loss of customers on those undesirable customers who "shop around" when their "deal" ends.
