 | Trying to trace a yahoo email sent to my gmail account Someone keeps sending me abusive emails with temporary, made-up emails, which they quickly shut down so I can't respond. I have gone through the normal channels looking for the IP address, but all I see are Yahoo's server addresses and various addresses that don't pull up anything. There's no address on the Return-Path and no X-Originating IP. I even paid for a short membership to Spokio trying to trace it. I did find two of the addresses had several comments saying the person was a dating website scammer, but I'm not sure if that means this is the person or if it has to do with the server. Obviously this is where my tech knowledge starts to break down. Any help would be awesome! If it is some random hacker, I'm concerned about identity theft, though relieved it's not someone close to me. |

How about post an example of one and make sure you tell us what they put in the subject line.
Never should respond to that crap anyway..

 | Yahoo headers will have the source IP in them but the person is probably using a proxy scrambler anyway unless they are dumb. But unless you pay for an anon/offshore email host your IP is plastered all over headers. Contact yahoo abuse department.
Don't post samples here it is totally unnecessary and you will likely get trolled pretty badly on this forum, and it isn't your fault or your name being used elsewhere. The numbers and email addresses you seek are below;

The E-Mail address for Yahoo! customer care is cc-advoc@yahoo-inc.com OK I got some more time for this thread...
1. This is the time of year those summer college course start where the prof. has the student make up a good story line..post it on the web..and get a reaction from the member. Usually it is posting like the OP's where there is considerable debate what really should be done. OP is already associated with intense debate..but could be someone else.
2. The OP has already stated that they know the emails come from "temporary, made-up emails" addresses. So yahoo is sterile to do anything about it..but it does not stop there..people who have used Yahoo for help like this is fine..but we have member in this forum who are on the other side of the coin where Yahoo..in all their wisdom has sent them emails and told them their account will or are going to be closed since it is sending out abusive email..and most of the time that was just a crock of shit.
3 This OP might be legit..but this OP also stated they have used for this problem Spokeo. and that should start some bells ringing for anyone who know that proggie. Suggest you read up on it.. »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spokeo
Anyone who uses that bit of fluff.. is not wanting abusive emails to stop..they want to play around and start doing some cyberstalking themselves..like gee..who is this person who is sending me this whatever..and the OP even bought the pro version. If the OP just want the abusive stuff to stop..the would have closed their gmail addy and never looked back. And that is what the OP should really do and stop wasting time and worry about it.
Now some other stuff..social media is not your friend..Facebook recently told user their email address was available for the entire public to see and not just their friend..but they had to change some settings. It is also a fact that 40% of the "people" on facebook are not there to socialize..they are Spammer..stalking and what your stuff.

Questions I asked would help us determine if those emails are bots..real people..or as the OP wondered "random hacker".
So let see if the OP posts again..I have even more questions.
I have no idea what kind of footprint the OP really leave on the internet or where..but if they have a problem like described..most of us here want to help them..not find or trace some yahoo stuff..but rather help them so it does NOT happen again. -- Gladiator Security Forum »www.gladiator-antivirus.com/

 | Thanks for your help. I'll contact yahoo - really appreciate the numbers. I would rather not post any part of the message as I agree that it wouldn't be of any use. The e-mailer does know personal things about me, but nothing they couldn't have gleaned from Facebook. I have my account set to private, but it's Facebook - not exactly secure. I came upon Spokeo in a Google search and was aware it was a little fluffy, but didn't see the harm in trying it. It did dig up more than I had come across thus far, but nothing useful. Again, thanks for your help. Will post again if I find anything. |

 | reply to Judi Allen Would an average person just wanting to send me a nasty email be able to use a proxy scrambler? I suspect this is either a person I know, who I don't believe is especially computer-savvy beyond knowing they can't use their own personal email, or a stranger who does this sort of thing for shits n' giggles.
I have had my gmail for many years and have a lot in it. Don't plan to delete the whole account because of one creep! |
