TrimlinePremium join:2004-10-24 Windermere, FL | [General] Reverse Phone Number Lookup A few years ago, you could look up any phone number online. Now, they all seem to be a subscription service, even White Pages. Is there still a service out there that allows a look up? |

| I guess the services are for landlines only. I always see:
We'll send you a text with the name: Enter your cell number $1.99/match billed to cell. Message and Data Rates May Apply Learn More
With so many mobile numbers, you would think they would at least show the city/carrier. |
|
 | I don't think anyone ever provided free reverse lookups for mobile numbers in the U.S. |

| Right.
When Verizon suggested publishing mobile numbers a few years ago, reaction was very negative.
Even Obama and Romney could probably agree on that.
Mobile users want to be left alone.

As far as outbound CNAM for mobile phones, AT&T has it, but Verizon does not (although Verizon just started offering it by request). |

Still free. I've done some testing:
• Cellular --- not a single one of more than two dozen cell phone numbers in various area codes yielded any "free" info. And in light of PX Eliezer's comment ... i.e., the absence of the existence of any Cellular Directory ... how can the referenced site show they can provide the info for $1.95 per number?
• VoIP/CLEC --- not one of a score of my VoIP/CLEC numbers in various area codes yielded any "free" info, including some numbers that actually do show my name on the »tnid.us/ site.
• PSTN --- roughly 50% of the two dozen landline numbers entered on the "whitepages" site yielded the name and address info for "free". |
|
 | As I said above, mobile numbers have never been included in free reverse lookup services. And VoIP numbers are, generally, unlisted. Which explains why it won't appear on a reverse lookup. They only return listed numbers. |

I'm now PSTN-free ... was listed in the local directory in my wife's name ... the account was in my name ... the reverse listing result showed my name. So, somehow, the successfully returned listings reflect the actual account name ... not necessarily the name shown in the local directories. |

 | WhitePages.com displays all family members in the household (including children), in many if not most lookups (regular or reverse.) How they obtain this information I am uncertain. |

You would think that your provider would ask if you would like outbound CNAM. It would make it a lot easier to "save" the calling parting on your mobile without typing a name.
Also useful when a mobile user calls a non-mobile number.
Hmmm. I'm with Sprint, I'll check with them. |

| reply to PX Eliezer Verizon does offer outbound CNAM, but it's the same name for all phones on a shared account (or at least on a family share plan). I know that my name is transmitted to my work number, but since I have customized my home (VoIP) CNAM for my cell#, I can't tell what's coming in to my VoIP line (and I'm too lazy to experiment). |

| Verizon Wireless (VZW) offers it as a free option, but it is not the default.
By default Wireless Caller is displayed instead of your name when you call a device enabled with Caller ID. If you do not make any changes, Wireless Caller will continue to be used. »support.verizonwireless.com/faqs···_id.html |

If you look at the link Eliezer provider on the post above this, one of the FAQ's says the following:
I have multiple mobile numbers under the same account. Can I use Share Name ID to specify a different name for each line?
Yes, you have the option of specifying a different name for each line.
(Share Name ID is VZW's term for CNAM.) |

| said by josephf:(Share Name ID is VZW's term for CNAM.) Yes, they choose the term poorly.
It [could] mean that everyone on the account is required to "share" a common outbound CNAM identity....
....but in fact it [does] mean that you are "sharing" your name with those whom you are calling (outbound CNAM). |

| reply to PX Eliezer When I first found that option, changing the name on line would make the same change on the other--it was rather annoying. So either I was doing something wrong (wouldn't be the first time), or their system was... (Sure, it wouldn't be the first time for that, either... grin) |
