Re: Bell lowered my profile :\ That's ridiculous that he set it at 6016/512... Your line can CLEARLY handle 800kbps as you had it with 3008/800. |

| reply to MrClean132 What tech support actually told you is "If Bell finds a problem with ISW they may charge you 87$ for the service call"
This is because ISW is your responsibility. They test at the demark and find no problems on their end? 87$
So, you better be SURE of what you're doing before opening that ticket, unless you like wasting $ |

MrClean132Sassy 'MedicPremium join:2000-08-28 Toronto, On | reply to MrClean132 I'm glad it's all fixed, but how exactly would I know it's my in house wiring?
I'm not an electrician, nor am I that well versed with DSL setups. All I know is, I didn't touch anything and my profile got bumped down. I understand the charge now, but nobody should be afraid to ask for technical service.
I don't have a solution for the charge other than make sure your wires are working fine inside the house to prevent that charge, but I do not have access to any diagnostic equipment other than picking up the phone and checking if I have a dialtone and maybe line stats from my DSL modem.
Again, I really don't think that people should have to think twice about asking for tech support. But that's just me.
Also no, that's not what tech support told me. I know it's what they meant to tell me, but those were not the words out of the CSR's mouth. |

When the Bell technician left this morning, I pulled the line stats, and it was 6016/512.
I then left for work and had someone at home check. Right now the profile is 5056/800
Gah Bell. WHY.
I had to call in and have a raise to best profile ticket submitted. |

 | reply to MrClean132 IKNS + 8816 modem = hard time to sync upload, at least that was the case with me. However an 800 profile here would sync at 516~544. (I think it was you that said they were on an IKNS)
My solution was to replace the modem with one that plays better with an IKNS remote (2wire 2701) it syncs at 816. |

MrClean132Sassy 'MedicPremium join:2000-08-28 Toronto, On | reply to MrClean132 I'll have to try a new modem another time. Thanks for letting me know your experience with IKNS. I learn so much everytime I post.
I just went offline 5 mins ago, and now I'm back again with a 6016/512 profile.
What a back and forth day! I hope this is the last of the calls I need to make. |

| He isn't on an IKNS remote.
Two clues. first, he was already syncing at 800k up, AND he had 13db SNR on the upstream, from his first post. IKNS remotes always report the upstream SNR at 6dB no matter what.
My guess it's Globespan. -- GO BLUE JAYS!

MrClean132Sassy 'MedicPremium join:2000-08-28 Toronto, On | reply to MrClean132 That makes sense.
I wonder if it changed because when I was asking for the 5 to 6meg upgrade, my upstream was 6dB at the time, and was causing false RCO readings.
Unless it wasn't 6dB and I'm just remembering it wrong. |
|
HiVoltPremium join:2000-12-28 Toronto, ON kudos:18 | 5056/800 or 3008/800 the upstream SNR does not change.
Bell just loves to stick the 512k upstream profiles on people... Just for good luck and shit... |

MrClean132Sassy 'MedicPremium join:2000-08-28 Toronto, On | reply to MrClean132 Ah yes, I wasn't remembering it wrong
I was told that my upstream SNR was 6dB causing 100% RCO from TekSavvy direct forum.
This is over in the official upgrade thread. I wonder why it's not like that anymore. Sadly I was never able to pull the vendor field from my 8816 so I'll never know with certainty. I think it's unlikely Bell upgraded/changed any of that.
Ah well. Thanks all for your help and Mr. Hivolt's expertise. |

 | reply to HiVolt Ah, he must have gotten kicked off the IKNS (as his previous posts stated a 6.0 upload)
Perhaps bells records don't reflect this, and have you down as having bad upload noise margin? |
|
 | reply to MrClean132 It seems that the incumbents really hate Teksavvy. If Rogers isn't cutting people off via blacklisting their modem or just snipping the line, Bell is dropping people's speeds.
Sad thing is, there's nothing we can do about it.

 | reply to MrClean132 It seems I'm in the same situation. My attenuation is pretty bad, and TSI DavidF confirmed in a tekSavvy Direct post that I'm around 5km away from the C.O. Is it possible to request to be changed to a remote closer to my house, and if so whom do I request this through, Bell or TekSavvy? Should it be input as a 'Slow Speed' problem or as something else? |

We would be the ones sending the request for a Line Transfer. But first you must qualify from a Remote before that can happen.
If you'd like to post in the » TekSavvy Direct we can get that looked in for you.
