[sprinklers] Rain Bird replacement lock

I have a Rain Bird ESP Modular system with an external enclosure. The enclosure has a lock on it, but the locks all use the same key which is readily available to anyone. Does anyone know of a replacement lock that could be installed that would have a different key?

It looks like Rainbird shows an outdoor enclosure but I don't see a lock on it. The picture would help, or maybe a number.

In any case, can you put it inside a lockable NEMA enclosure that you could hang your own padlock on?

You mean a screwdriver and a hammer? The locks aren't that strong and the plastic isn't hard to break either. Why would you need to lock the control er anyway unless it's on a commercial. In which case I understand however all you will do is piss off the guy who works on the system after you are gone. If you still think you need a new lock I would suggest an arcade supplier. You will need the current lock diameter and reuse the metal lock "arm" on the current lock.

I'm a homeowner and someone keeps coming in and changing the settings. I'd like to put a stop to that. Yes someone could still get in, but I'm hoping that will put an end to it. The NEMA enclosure is possible, but that might be overkill.

Looks like just a simple and cheap wafer lock. Undo the hex nut on the inside and shop around for a replacement. Going to a locksmith might cost more, however they could provide a replacement with different keying.

Agree on just buying a new lock, either off the shelf (hardware store? No idea) or having a locksmith get you one.

I'm surprised that anyone other than a 12 year old kid would mess with your sprinkler, and then bring along their key to do so. What a world.

Woah, I can imagine it's a neighbor for whatever X reason.

Maybe a simple hidden camera would help catch the guilty party and telling them you know what they are doing would put a stop to it.

What is the controller getting changed to? If it is going to say 12-15 mins on each station and 3 or 5 days a week each time. The controller may need to be reset. Sometimes power surges and outages can scramble the NVRAM and needs to be reset. Also I have seen a short in the feild wire do strange things also. On the back of the inside board is a reset button. Can't remember the exact procedure but press and hold for 30 seconds. Then reprogram.

Also, is there a backup battery? When I moved in, there was no 9V installed in the space for the backup battery in my controller.

yeah, maybe he gets soaked when he trys to go to work, or put out his garbage, etc. anyway, that's a VERY common lock, you can also get that with the round key.

That's a CAM lock. Very cheap and easy to replace. Take a look at this eBay search and you should see many that are similar. Just make sure you measure the hole diameter and depth of the lock to make sure it will fit in your enclosure. Don't worry if the tab on the new lock is too long since you can always hacksaw it down to size if you can't find one that fits exactly.

Best thing to do is take OUT your lock, that way you can measure it and see what flat sides it may have.
