[Ooma] Bundled Service

My friend wants to buy an Ooma Telo but he has ATT bundled Phone and DSL service. Can he discontinue the phone service and use the DSL for Ooma??

You'd need DSL without the phone service, which is also called "dry loop".

Verizon is trying to prevent people from doing dry loop, however its detractors strongly object to that.

AFAIK, AT&T still allows dry loop, but it is fraught with peril if you are trying to do such a downgrade.

Most of the time phone / internet / TV bundles make it difficult to cancel service. Ooma is not totally free to use anymore, for new subscribers.

Suggest your friend try an OBI device with Google Voice for a month or so on his current DSL line, see if he likes VOIP via DSL before he tries to make major changes.

Re: [Ooma] Bundled Service

I still have a dry loop from Megapath (formerly Covad) over AT&T copper. It's not cheap, or even competitive really, but it is extremely reliable and I need a backup to our main Comcast service.
