Have Comcast HSI, want to throw at&t into the septic tank.

I got Comcast HSI yesterday, done a few tests, watch a TV show (21 mins or something like that) on Netflix in HD went well, played BF3 on Xbox Live, went well, surf the web, went well, watch Youtube in HD, went well, so I'm wondering if I should go ahead and cancel at&t internet today or should I wait a few more days? I'm keeping the landline for now until I save up for a smartphone, which I will get through Cricket. I pay at&t on the 20th of each month.

I would if I were you, after paying on the 20th, making sure it clears with them.

I took Comcast HSI two days before my ATT billing period ended. I canceled AT&T on my last day in the billing cycle, so I won't owe them anything.

Welcome aboard.

If you don't cancel on the 20th of the month, expect a pro rated bill if they close after the next billing cycle.

I changed mid-cycle, and got a pro-rated bill.

Had 10+ years of AT&T dsl (SNET/SBCGlobal/AT&T). For the most part, I had few complaints, but the cost versus speed became an increasingly bad deal, so Comcast was hard to resist.

Its only been a few months, but so far, switching to Comcast has been a good deal.

I'd say Comcast for Internet but keep the home phone. I don't know how many times my mother has used the home phone to locate a misplaced cell phone. Also you don't have to worry about dropped calls on a home phone, especially if you call a number with long hold times before reaching an operator. I have Comcast for Internet and VZ for home phone even though the home phone sets me back $65 a month with all the fees.

You should have attached the YMMV disclaimer to your post.

I have had no problems using either my Vonage VoIP phone or my cell phone to locate my wife's misplaced cell phone... POTS is not required to locate a misplaced cell phone.

As for POTS reliability, that is very much area and service provider dependent. I switched to cell phone and VoIP many years ago because AT&T's landline service was atrocious... dropped calls, noise on the line, audio dropout, and multi-day (sometimes multi-week) outages, etc.

Some of us also can't afford/justify spending $65 a month for a poorly performing voice service that would seldom be used since the alternatives are so much more reliable and have better voice quality.

But as I said [disclaimer]YMMV[/disclaimer]

I'm confused now, on my bill it says I'm paying for 12mbps but I signed up for 20mbps, what is going on? When I do speed test I get a little more than 20mbps, like more like 20.29mbps for example.

You got 12/2 package which is performance starter but with the speedboost you're seeing 20/4 speeds

I'm paying $29.99 per month for the 1st 6 month and after that it should go up, will $46.95 be the regular full price after my promo is up?

I put the relevant portion of your quote into bold type to help you see it. You just got snookered by Comcast's marketing department. It is an intentionally misleading marketing gimmick to make it seem as if Comcast's already fast plans are faster than they really are. It is also why Comcast's speed test is designed to accentuate the effects of PowerBoost (it could just as easily have been designed to reasonably accurately show your real sustained speed).

I use this for testing my speed.

Weather Comcast advertised it as 12 or 20, I would had sign up either way. Let say the was choice between 12 and 20, I would took the 12 plan anyways, as that would be faster speed than what I was getting with at&t anyways.

I have a question, does Comcast manage your speed if let say you're watching Youtube videos in HD using up bandwidth? I was just watching videos before coming back to this site, and I did a speed test on the site I linked above, and I was getting less than 12 mbps. thats why I ask.

Welcome to the Internet, where what you see is not necessarily what you get. Shown below are two back to back Speakeasy speed tests, followed by two back to back Xfinity speed tests. You can't rely on the results of any particular on-line speed test (or a specific test result), you have to use multiple tests over a long term, and average the results.

My SamKnows box does long term averaging, and also transfers enough data with each test to paint a reasonably good average speed picture (but I am not sure if they are still looking for any new USA volunteers for their program):

And no, Comcast is not singling out your connection to slow it down because you went to Youtube, it is just the nature of the Internet.

Looks like you have a "16/2" config file in the modem.
