Not true. Why post lies? Prove it's a lie! What? it has been proven 1000s of times over and over again on this site. I guess you started to read about Lightsquared yesterday.
1. GPS was first. It was built starting in the 60/70s.
2. GPS signals red shift into the lower frequencies due to moving satellites. You cant change the laws of physics. GPS signal is right in the middle of their allocated spectrum. If you take away the red shifted signals you lose a lot of accuracy for GPS.
3. The FCC decided to assign a narrower band to GPS than it really needed after the fact, but their solution was the adjacent bands can only be used for satellite communications so it can play nice with the GPS signals. They wanted to share spectrum, but not with overpowering signals.
4. GPS and their filters all work as engineered/designed. GPS manufactures simply follow the GPS spec written by military/government engineers and the FCC bandwidth allocations.
5. GPS is owned by US tax payers. It is our system. It is a joke that Lightsquared wants to screw with our US tax payer GPS system.
GPS device manufactures make equipment for us to use the GPS system we all paid for. It is not the GPS device manufactures system. Lightsquared was trying to battle US taxpayers not GPS device manufactures.
