| | Just saying Do we really need proof cable cutting exists? I feel like every time you guys post something like this here your trying to convince us its real? We all know it exists and we all know its going to get worse for the entertainment industry before it gets better. The cats been out of the bag so to speak and these posts are preaching to the choir because many of the cord cutters are right here. I'm probably wrong buts that's what it feels like.
Anyways I have learned a lot about this issue here and its important to understand that this isn't an easy fix. There's not going to be a smooth transition to the next step. We need to send a message though and it needs to get louder and it needs to happen quickly if we are going to get this resolved.
Cut the cord now. At the very least cut your package down. This isn't just about the cost either. Its about the quality of the content and the entertainment industries blatent flaunting of their riches brought by our hard earned much more limited funds. I believe actors and musicians are important to our way of life and they deserve to make a decent living. I have no problem with them building a big house and owning a Ferrari. I do have a problem with multiple mansions and warehouses full of cars. Are these people really that much more important than our soldiers, doctors, nurses, police etc...? I don't think so.

I do.
As I said in another thread about the same idiotic topic. There are approx. 114.6 Million TV households in the US. Combined the top 25 MSOs have about 97 million subscribers. That works out to be 85% of Americas subscribe to traditional pay TV services, and that doesnt even take into account the very small cable systems.

Wake me up when traditional pay TV has less than 60 million subs and then maybe I'll buy into this nonsense. Until then, all 'cutting the cord' is, is an attempt by a very very small vocal minority to 1) Get back at 'the man' aka cable companies 2) To cheap out -- For the future of our nation, we must unite and vote out the terrorist known as Hussein Obama. Come November 6 2012 we must remove the socialist pig out of office and get our country back on the RIGHT track.

In the past two years, almost everyone I know has downgraded to just OTA broadcasts coupled with streaming services like Netflix/Hulu, including myself. I still get everything I want and am saving over $85 a month. I really think this trend will continue, too. And the only reason the three or so friends I have who still have pay TV keep it is due to the fact they are die hard sports fanatics and need the service to watch their teams play.

OTA is 7-10 channels of FCC watered down junk. Netflix is lame with piss poor content and isn't Hulu the one that does not let you skip past commercials.
Like I said, wake me up when half the country no longer has traditional pay TV and went with inferior means of entertainment. Until then, this 'cord cutting' nonsense, is just that, nonsense. -- For the future of our nation, we must unite and vote out the terrorist known as Hussein Obama. You and your friends are in the minority. A recent survey shows that only 16% of US household do not subscribe to a pay TV service:
"According to information from NPDs recent Digital Video Outlook report, 16 percent of U.S. households do not currently subscribe to pay-TV services."

| | | Wake you up? Awwwww Steve who are we kidding here. With the package you have who has time to sleep. Lol | |
| | | | "2) To cheap out"
i'm afraid i have to take offense with this. if by "cheap out" you mean i don't find the value of american shows and movies to be worth the price their asking, since most anything put on tv or in the theatres these days consists of comic book remakes, toilet humor, and anything else that panders to the lowest common denominator, then i'm afraid yes, i'm "cheaping out". i currently have only cable internet, no cable tv packages bundled in nor any tele services bundled in. those things i bring "over the top" of the internet connection via a google voice number that will eventually be hooked to an asterisk PBX system, and via Netflix as well as downloading movies and tv shows from foreign countries (mostly chinese movies and tv shows, but occasionally i'll catch a british/russian/bollywood movie on Netflix). American content is just utter trash. it panders to the willfully ignorant. Wake me up when american cable stops wanting me to pay to be advertised to and stops trashing up the screen.

Me, I have no interest in some foreign crap I cant understand or some artsy fartsy junk. Ill take comic book movie adaptions, I dont do movie theaters often, but the last 4 movies I saw in the theater, The Dark Knight, Hulk, Iron Man 2 and The Avengers. And boy do I love toilet humor. South Park is among one of my favorite TV shows, although that is more of a social satire then toilet humor, but I do love Opie & Anthony on the radio, and late night comedy specials on HBO. Sorry, I dont find shit like I Love Lucy funny. I like my crude humor, laced with profanity and humor at the expense of others. Thats how I roll. -- For the future of our nation, we must unite and vote out the terrorist known as Hussein Obama. After the Yankees replay of them spanking the Mets Im going to pop in Superbad with Seth Rogan and Jonah Hill, wanna come over and partake? Tons of swearing, crude humor and the best of situations, sexual! Hell, if I remember right theres even a tit shot. Or should I watch Bad Teacher with Cameron Diaz on Starz On Demand? So what do ya say Mclovin, wanna come over and watch some REAL movies? -- For the future of our nation, we must unite and vote out the terrorist known as Hussein Obama.
