Re: Taxes/Fees

And, what taxes and fees do these services charge? My $24.99 Vonage (I work from home, and it's my work phone) goes up to $36.53 total. That's about 46%+!

Callcentric only charges taxes if you live in the state of New York.

As far as other fees: they charge a $1.50/month fee for E911 if you live in the U.S. (This is waived if you sign up for one of their monthly outgoing plans.)

Really, I don't know why anyone would have vonage or VOIP from the cable company with all of the below-the-line fees that they charge!

Not true, they charge tax everywhere like here in AZ but VOIP.MS doesn't have to somehow. Maybe it's because they are headquartered in Canada with website in Montserrat?

From the Callcentric FAQ:
What taxes does Callcentric charge?

Callcentric currently collects the following taxes:

8.875% NY State Sales Tax on all billed calls and services to customers with a New York State address.

NY State Sales tax is collected on all billed calls and services for Callcentric customers with a NY State address, and is remitted to New York State.

The regulations on Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) are currently not set in stone. Callcentric hopes that the NY State sales tax will be the only tax required to be collected by the Federal and State governments in the future.

If you have been charged taxes and do not live in NY, I suggest that you ask them for a refund....

crazyk4952, when I tried signing up with CallCentric they added taxes and 911 fees so they can't say they only collect taxes in NY. You can try it yourself. Voip.ms didn't add any fees.

I have never been charged tax with callcentric. As stated before, they are mandated to provide E911 service by the FCC, so they pass that cost along.

Incorrect.

I live in WV and never have had to pay either WV or NY tax.
I do have to pay 911 cost recovery fee, but that's not a tax.
