united state | Vizio with ATSC/Clear QAM tuner My son has a new Vizio TV he bought in December. He used it here in Naperville, IL over the Christmas holidays without a box, using the built-in tuner for basic cable. He came home from college in May, and the TV worked fine. I mentioned to him that he might need to re-scan the channels, so he did around June 1. Now he's only getting one channel. When he re-scans, he gets a different channel each time. When I called WOW, I was told that some newer QAM tuners don't work with the changes in the digital line-up. It worked find a week ago. Has there been some significant change in the last week? Any suggestions? It seems foolish to have to use a "box" to receive basic cable on an up-to-date tv.

| I don't have a Vizio TV, but my kitchen TV is a small LCD that I had hooked up via QAM a few days ago. All the channels were detected during scan but there was significant stuttering... it was unwatchable so I instead hooked up a free digital adapter that I was previously using on a different TV. It worked fine with digital adapter so I kept this setup. I'm in Troy, MI though so my experience might not be applicable to you. |

united state | I'm working with Vizio to see if they can help with anything. The digital adapter may be the next solution, but they will no longer be free after August or so. Yeah, just $2, but this was a TV I wasn't expecting to have to use it on. When the digital conversion occurred, they were for use on older analog TVs or TVs without built-in converters. Now I have replaced an older TV with one that has a QAM tuner, and the WOW agent told me that some newer TV tuners don't work with the digital system and will need the dated boxes. I'm wondering if there is anywhere to buy the boxes - they can't be worth much more than a year's rent of $24. |

Was this stuttering with video and audio? I've got a Coby that has issues with audio stuttering, and we're pretty sure it's the TV (especially since a seperate QAM tuner works fine), but if there's something else going on I'd love to know. |

I'm using five tv's with their Qam tuners ok but the Vizio is three years old. To bad the companys are already screwing with the tuners now. |

Like you, I also assumed it was an issue with the TV's tuner (it's a Viewsonic N1630w) since the digital converter worked just fine. But I hadn't ruled out that perhaps there's something unique about WOW's QAM broadcast that causes issues with some tuners. (This is just speculation on my part, I don't know much about QAM signals nor digital tuners.) |

We have seen many of the lower end TVs sometimes have issues with picking up the clearQAM stations. There's not anything we can do from our side to correct this, as the channels are there. It seems to be that the lower end tuners aren't able to handle the modulation as well as others. We are not able to guarantee every QAM tuner picks up the channels, but we do our best to put the channels out there for everyone.
