1 edit | [connectivity] DSL Light on but Internet Light Out Hello today was our Verizon double play activation date; our phone service is working no problem however the DSL modem is not connecting to the internet. This morning the DSL light on the modem went from flashing to solid green and has stayed solid since but the internet light hasn't come on at all.
The installer stopped by to check on everything and seen the DSL light was on said I just needed to complete the activation process online, but I can't get online to do so.
I also called the 800 # spent about a hour on the phone with them resetting the router and doing line tests.
The Modem is: Actiontec GT784WNV |

| Re: [connectivity] DSL Activation How is your system set up? When I did it, I wired my computer to the modem, and then opened up a web browser. Try to go to any web address, and it should automatically redirect you to Verizon's activation page. I'm sure you can do it through the wireless network, but that introduces a few more variables... |

 | reply to lakadre Have you put your PPPoe user name and PW into the modem/router? This is the same as you use to access your online account. For example if your account user name is HOTROD and your PW is XYXYXY you need to input these into the modem/router under PPPoe user / password. NOTE this is DIFFERENT from the modem log in which is usally ADMIN and password to open the modem interface. This is a one time thing that will stay as long as you don't change your account user name or password. |

 | reply to Ledgem I had my laptop running win 7 hooked directly up with a cat-5, but even manually typing in activatemyhsi.verizon.net won't load the page or get the Internet light to come on.. We did a few factory resets on the modem with no change, I even went outside and plug directly into the test jack but no Internet light even though the "DSL" light is on solid. Tech support was suppoosted to do some line tests yesterday and get back with me so if I don't hear anything I will call them again soon..
Anybody have any ideas before I call again ? I've always dealt with cable modems in the past so i'm new to DSL, It seems like with the DSL light on that it's seeing the CO, but not provissioned on there end?

| If you haven't done the Verizon activation process, how do you have an account and user name? I wonder if that's part of the problem - for me, the Actiontec kept using the account "newdsl" with some pre-filled password, even after I had activated. (I've since swapped out modems and have my router handling the PPPoE, with my Verizon account and password.) But if I remember it right, I created my Verizon account and password during the activation process.
If the DSL light is on and steady, it means that the modem has established a connection and the connection should work.
One other thing I can think of is phone interference, although even that shouldn't cause the problems that you're seeing. Do you have filters on all of your phones (if you have any)?
Phones aside, do you have a home alarm system? I remember a few years back I had an issue with my DSL and my home alarm. I forgot what the fix was, but it required a technician to come out. |
|
 | When I placed my order online I was able to go thru and set up everything account info, email address and passwords, when ever I would a factory reset on the modem it would default back to that "newdsl" user ID I even tried that to see if would work ...
I do have phone service as well which has filters on it, I did run a new decateded cat-3 line just for the DSL out to the box, thinking it was an issue with the inside wiring I tried it straight from the test jack outside and still no Internet .
Maybe there is interference on the line inbetween the house and CO ? |

| I doubt this is a case of interference. Your signal's coming in nice and strong, and you've got tons of room for more speed. This looks like a provisioning issue where the account wasn't built successfully. Have someone try a rebuild against the circuit and an OAM ATM Ping on the modem (if the modem doesn't have that diagnostic ability) to see if the line itself is truly broken or is somewhat working. We've got a signal so that's a good step. |
|
 | Thank you that makes sence I will see if I can get them to do that when I call today. Thats good to hear I was hoping for a good signal being that my Remote Terminal building is right down the road, the highest package I could sign up for was the 1.1-3 Mbps, after I get it working I will have to see if they can adjust it up closer to 3 mbps, hopefully my RT is fed with more than one T1 line. |

 | reply to Smith6612 So I'm up and running finally, a Verizon manger actually called me back they did a line test which failed so they escalated it up higher said that tech would have to come out in the next 48 hr.. About an hour later I noticed the internet light was finally on and shortly there after I received a call from Maryland based tech to follow up that it was working! |
